Work visa Validity and CID report

Dear Friends,

My present work visa (1st year) expired few days ago. Though the visa is for 2 years, company has not renewed it so far. At the same time I am considering change of sponsorship to another company and need a CID report for it.

Is it required to renew the visa with my present company for another year for this purpose. Or CID report/visa change can be obtained during the 3 months grace time.

Anybody who had a similar experience please advice.
