90% housing units at Asian Town occupied: Official
Asian Town, an entertainment and residential hub of Asian expatriates in Qatar, has become a happening place with nearly 90% of its housing units having been occupied.
"Nearly 90% of the housing units are already occupied and the rest are likely to be occupied shortly," Senior Marketing Official of Asian Town Ahmed Refaat told The Qatar Tribune.
The residential complex, which includes as many as 5,600 rooms meant for single expatriate workers, was opened for occupancy in the middle of 2015.
The residential units with all facilities have since become an attractive destination for many companies offering accommodation to workers.
The latest addition to the Asian Town is the opening of the fourth Cinema Hall and a number of shops near the workers' accommodations.
An official of Al Madina Group in the Industrial Area said, "I haven't seen such a facility offered by a county to its expatriate workers. It offers everything for working community, including a shopping mall, a cricket stadium, an amphitheatre and four cinema halls as well as an open area to roam around and have refreshments."
Another official of an engineering firm said, "More than 200 employees of our firm are staying comfortably in Asian Town. Mowasalat's additional buses that connect Asian Town with Doha and many parts of Industrial Area offer them greater mobility."
The new property has facilities like round the clock water and electricity supply, CCTV surveillance, housekeeping, cleaning, pest control, maintenance, recreation and sports centre, 24x7 help desk, healthcare units and mosque.
It also boasts 18 three-storey buildings with each building having 312 rooms. A maximum of four people are allowed to stay in the 24 square-metre room.

The main reason most come to the GCC is to save money - not as a career move..
Mufti, Why like that ? .........................
Come on Eyad - were the other six young senoritas ?
Eyad's logic is ' if Europe can commit suicide, why cant we'..
see ...in Europe people focus on their jobs , thats how they move from a position to a better one.
Wow Eyad, it must have been fun, having such experience, do you want to live like that again, if you had a choice?
in Barcelona i was sharing one room with other seven people .
Great efforts are appreciated by all.
5,600 rooms means 25,000 single workers being crammed into them. What an achievement!
A large no. of residents are not labours. Companies are taking advantage of it and putting up staff there.
Good work speaks for itself ..................
Send this news to UN and Human Rights Dept., I am sure they will praise for this great initiative.
An area designed for single Asian expats, where some share four to a room "has become a happening place ..." ?
Who thinks all this up ?
