Dodge and Nissan in Qatar punished for cheating customers
Two popular car showrooms in Qatar have been shut down by the government for a month for trying to sell some repaired vehicles as brand new.
Some of the cars were actually damaged in road accidents and were allegedly put on sale after extensive repairs and painting to look like they were brand new vehicles, The Peninsula reported.
The two showrooms belong to the local dealers of famous world auto brands: Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana (Nissan) and United Cars-Al Mana (Dodge).
Nissan's car showroom at Salwa Road and Dodge's showroom at Airport Road will now be shut down for a month at least. It is unsure whether the dealers have appealed to overturn the decision or reduce the sanctions.
Inspectors from the Ministry were keeping an eye on the outlets following public complaints.
“We found out that these showrooms were selling cars damaged in accidents after extensive repairs and painting,” the Ministry said in a press statement.
A surprise raid was conducted on the showrooms and it was found that they were indeed violating the consumer protection law (Article 7 of Law No 8 of 2008), the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, reports of the crackdown and closure of the two showrooms went viral on Twitter with most people lauding the move.

Now, people buying brand new cars must be careful and make sure they are not being cheated as they spend tens of thousands of riyals.
The Ministry has urged people to use its free hotline (8005000) to report suspected malpractices by car dealers.

How rich people can execute such a bad ideology. Infact they are one of the premium brands in Qatar..!!?#$%
After one month, it will reopen. But the law still not ensuring what will do the same scenario happens? Indeed its all belongs to the royal families in Qatar..!!
NISSAN JAPAN and GENERAL MOTORS should show the courage to cancel the dealership and re-award the agency to some other companies. Or atleast 3-4 showrooms in different names (different ownership) might be required in Qatar for all major brands.
Nothing else will do..!
Alibaba no good!
Dogde was closed in Saudi Arabia few months back for the same reason and now it started in Qatar as well. I would highly recommend everyone that take your mechanic with you even if you are buying a new car from now on.
I made full payment on 10/12/14 at the Nissan main showroom on salwa after being told delivery will be on 14/12/14 and so far they have been telling car will be ready for delivery the next day, now they have informed that I'll get the car by 17th December. Knowing that they will be closed on 18th and 19th not sure if this is again going to happen...
Nissan is a good reputed brand and good market in qatar, but i hope hereafter Nissan market will go down little due to this incident. Who will trust hereafter to go with that showroom.....
carfax is the answer. Not sure if traffic dep. here in Qatar track vehicles' transcations, accidents ....etc and are welling to disclose such info. if someone can make this happen, here lays a great business venture for you. Welling to share more insights if someone is interested..... free of charge.
Guys, any suggestion on how to make sure that we don't fall in such traps while buying new cars? Be it any brand, we have to be careful now.
Now I have good news, they called me and confirmed that they will try to deliver by this week (by Wed, 17th) and if not they will provide me Rent A car or Substitute Car till delivery. Now they are proceeding for registration.
I had a very bad experience with this company, i bough a Nissan Armada 2006 model, and they brought it in to the service center in industrial area to fix the multimedia, they had made very bad accident on my car, they didn't even inform me, i knew it from the Al khaled Insurance company when i renew it my insurance for 3rd party that the person on the registration told me why i am ganna renew my car for 3rd party he said had accident, that time i was curious why my car had an accident and i didn't do it or happened, am the only person who were driving my car, i was curious i went to the police station and verify with them, and police officer said yes it is had an accident in the company service, he printed it to me the report, in short i rise up a complained to the court, I still had all the policy report copies, Cheating, service manager supervisor, mechanic,
Hohoho
Odometer being manipulated is common everywhere. Not just in Qatar.
What can be done?
1. A good diagnostic check by a mechanic/specialist (not 'German Computer for car8888' or whatever the name is) for visual inspection and an engine percentage check.
2. Visit the vendor's service center to check on last service details to catch crazy odometer fiends.
3. A full diagnostics checkup (worth Qrs 600, as opposed to Qrs 200 at a 'Computer' checkup place) will open your eyes to every little anomaly. But, carefull, any average 5 year old car, will exhibit 10 or more faults between 10,000 Kms service.
4. If you have bought the car from a 1st hand seller, you might want to approach the authorities (not consumer affairs, personal sellers are not classified as merchants)
The crucial thing when you go for buying a new car is, they never disclose the pre-registered car to the customer until it is registered on customer name. How does the customer know whether it is new or second ? The ministry department can open website for checking car chassis and engine number such a way to identify a car is really new or second and when exactly imported in Qatar, if required they can charge a nominal fee. It is surprise to see such a giant auto dealer doing the nasty things to their customer. Shame !!!!
I bought a second hand 4x4 (not Nissan) and discovered later that the reading in the odometer was manipulated... Anything can be done?
After Sales also very Bad , they eat ur money for small small items and as lobor charge too.better go for other brands.....Hyundai / renault is good and best cheap maintenance and good after sales service.i will sell soon and go for Hyundai Tucson.
What about used cars being sold with tempered odometers? I am a victim but still no clue what to do.
Yes they are the cheaters even in after Sale Services. They had my car scratched everywhere including windshield and mirrors. But when complained in consumer court, it went into the Nissan favor. Second time I had my headlights scratched, when asked they said its not us we will not correct it. They just refuse to do the repair. Its a big loss.
Only the Salwa Road Nissan showroom is closed for now. Closing one of their biggest showrooms for a month will cut down their revenue tremendously.
Reji67: Call 8005000 and explain your situation.
Now they will do whatever possible to make you happy as they are in this situation. Try to meet the manager there and I am sure he will find a solution.
by the is it only for showroom in salwa road or all the Nissan showrooms in Qatar ?
try consumer court. :P
I made full payment for buying a Car on 13th December 2015 from Nissan Showroom, but the showroom was closed one hour after my payment. I was expecting delivery on 16th (Tuesday). What shall I do now? Also I sold my car on the same day. What about my situation ? When I can get the new Car ? The car salesman said no idea. Now I will have to pay for Rent A Car if I don't get can in this week. It is a big shock for me.
