Ministry relaxes two restrictive clauses that hinder expatriate job changes

Qatar introduced the long-awaited labour reforms last month and there has been intense interest in it ever since. There had been a feeling in some sections of society that the rule change actually made it tougher for expatriates to change jobs in the country.

But now, the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) has amended some of those conditions, making the process a lot simpler and widening its scope for potential beneficiaries.

The Ministry has taken down the clause that specified that an expatriate can be recruited by only those companies that have the visa for the same nationality, gender and profession as that of the candidate, reported Gulf Times.

60-year age limit taken down

The clause, which said that expatriates above 60 years of age are ineligible for job changes, has also been removed.

Do you think this makes things a bit easier?

It's funny that a law that has been mulled for years requires amendments one month after its official introduction. What were they doing all the years?

Nice.. the law should clearly state that you should oblige to contractual terms in your contract paper for re-entry.
