MME swings into action, pumps out 10 million gallons of rainwater from the city

Water-logging has almost always been an issue in Doha whenever there are heavy rains. However, this time around, things have been relatively smoother.

That may have something to do with swift action taken by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), who deployed enough forces to make the city free from clogged drains.

The MME’s Joint Committee for Combating Rainwater Emergencies and Risks worked alongside rain emergency teams from different municipalities to remove 10 million gallons of rainwater from different parts of the city, reported Gulf Times.

Safar Al Shafi, who heads the committee, said that 182 water tank lorries, operated by 429 workers, had worked hard to make the feat possible, according to Qatar Tribune.

He added that they had received 58 complaints of water-logging from residents and that all of them had been resolved successfully.

The emergency teams also worked round the clock to cleared all major streets and public places in the country.

Qatar Met department data showed the Ras Laffan monitoring station in the north recorded the highest rainfall at 15.9mm, followed by Ghuwairiyah at 13.7mm, Ruwais at 11.6mm and Umm Bab at 10.9mm.
The Met department also said that the chances of rain will weaken today, but improve again from tomorrow. The wet spell, during which scattered rain is expected, will then continue until the weekend.

If they have proper drainage in place there is no need for such drastic measures!
