Qatar imported about 67,000 brand new vehicles for sale in 2015, according to latest report released by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce yesterday.

On average, around 5,600 private vehicles were sold every month last year, according to local daily The Peninsula.

November saw the highest sales, with over 6,771 vehicles, followed by March where 6,607 new vehicles were sold and registered.

Meanwhile, the sale and ownership transfer of second-hand vehicles increased during the last quarter of 2015.

Sale of small and medium sized vehicles rose by two percent during the first half of last year, compared to the same period in 2014.

Private vehicles topped the list of imports during 2015, with their value amounting to nearly QR10.8bn, which is equal to 9.1 percent of the total value of commodities imported in 2015.

Private vehicle imports reached their lowest in August with a total value of QR682m, followed by May with an estimated value of QR733m. [Read more on The Peninsula]
