Atheism and Communism - Whats the difference?

Shuaibkazi
By Shuaibkazi

Let me reiterate the question

I know that atheists dont unite themselves under a banner of any doctrine per se

And distinguish themselves on the one belief that they do not believe in God or any supernatural being - simple right?

Then why do they force the issue that communistic principles are different from Atheism when the sole and primary belief has been met - which is the unbelief in God & any supernatural deity

I personally see the communistic pattern of thought as a higher level of Atheism

I say this because till date no government apart from the famous communist regimes can call themselves God free - LOL!

Communism-political

Atheism-A BELIEF

That's all it is. I mean, it doesn't mean that if you're an atheist you're automatically a communist. I mean, there are some atheists who are democrats you know?

Shuai,

Why don't you first define your understanding of communism and atheism and then ask the question. I really don't get your version of communism and atheism.

As I see:

Communism: Is socio-political. Got nothing to do with religion. Some communist leaders insisted on adding 'no religion' rule fearing that religion will go against their ideology. This doesn't mean atheism will go with their ideology.

Atheism: Is spiritual. Not believing in a supreme being - God. Atheism has nothing to do with equality etc.

I think I'm basing it on Karl Marx's Communist manifesto, how much more communist can you get?

"ie: equality for everyone, the proliterate (meek) shall take over, everything should be shared, and everything should be for the betterment of the people, the State will be the supreme decision maker for the people and will be a benevolant leader (provided you don't rebel against it's orders)"

I think ur mistaking the incorrect application of communism (based on socialism) with the theorotical fundamentals of the same

I think if its applied correctly it wud still prove to be much better than a democracy

As the saying goes " "I can tolerate democracy as long as 1 fool is equal to 1 Wise man, but it can't be tolerated when 2 fools equal 1 wise man"

Rule of the majority when the majority are poor simpletons who get swayed in the name of crusades and holy wars cannot be a place for democracy

I elaborated in an earlier post, but I'll do so again. If you look at the basic tenents of communism, ie: equality for everyone, the proliterate (meek) shall take over, everything should be shared, and everything should be for the betterment of the people, the State will be the supreme decision maker for the people and will be a benevolant leader (provided you don't rebel against it's orders).

These are pretty much in line with the teachings of Jesus or Mohammed, simply replacing Allah with State.

It can have small affects, but can't buck a serious trend!

You and I know that, but people vote for governments, and governments change if they are seen as not trying to act!  So they have to be seen to try different things!

You seem like an intelligent boy.  A suspect you already knew the answer to your thread above and but was looking for other's opinions and wider discussion!

Shua, the godless aspect is a bi-product of Communism, it is not a principle of the ideology.  Organized Religion and Communism share more values and ideals then Atheism and Communism.

Atheism and Communism share the principle belief system of being Godless

We are not talking about free market or a closed economy here

Yes i did study economics but i guess i must have been sleeping when they were teaching us about the similarities and dissimilarities between communism and atheism - LOL!

So whom do u follow - Milton or keynes (other things being equal)

Shuaibkazi,   LOL

You should have learnt what communism was if you studied economics, right? (and the differences with a free market economy)

And from your post you obviously know what atheism is, so how could you confuse communism?  That is why I question you!

So did you study any economics or not?

Shuaibkazi, are you for real???

From your question I had to look at you profile to see your age because this is something an educated teenager would know.

From your profile it says you are a market risk analyst.

You must have studied some sort of economics to be in a position like that and as a former economics lecturer I can tell you that if you studied economics to any level you would know the difference between Atheism and Communism!

Answer me this, how does a market risk analyst not know the difference?

 Have a look at these:

Bald is not a hair colour

It's a position on one single issue it's not a belief system

It seems to me that you don't know what a religion is if you think atheism is one.

Do atheists really denounce religion Shuaibkazi?

I don't believe in any god so hence consider myself an atheist, but I don't denounce religion. Just because religion is not right for me doesn't mean I speak out against it. I actually think people get a great deal from religion and a lot of what religions teach about how to lead our lives is very worthwhile.

Atheists just like the communists denounced religion

I feel that communism has progressed in deciphering the codes of conduct and applying atheism to a society as a whole

It has its adv and disadv just like any man made system

Whereas the common atheistic outlook has just been a finger pointer at all of the existing ideologies in general without a clear solution of its own

or am i wrong

Communism is a political theory that's primary belief is centered around equality for all people.  Everyone makes the same wage, everyone shares food, etc.  There is noone better then anyone else.

The theory was first put forward by Karl Marx, and later expanded upon by Lenin.  Under Marx's theory religion would eventually disappear as it is a dividing factor, ie: it makes some people (priests/non-sinners) more powerful then others AND it promotes a set of virtues and laws sperate from those of the state.  Therefore they would be in conflict.

Where religion promotes the idea that one should only follow the rules of God, Communism promotes the State into God's place and says you should only follow the rules of the state.

Actually the general fundamental beliefs and values of communism are almost identical to the teachings of Jesus Christ, and to a slightly lesser extent Mohammed.  Just replace Allah with the State.

However, in practice (and there has never been a country that practiced Communism perfectly anymore then there's been a country or people that practised religion properly) Religion has still been allowed in communist states, but the power of religious leaders has been severly limited.

But ok here goes again; in some countries (no one mentioned) you can be a member of any party you feel like as well as any church/belief including being an atheist! I know this is a new a revolutionary concept to comprehend but it actually works.

This means you can be a catholic/jewish/muslim/x/x/x democrat/socialdemocrat/x/x/x/ without being a member of a tribe or clan or family - i.e you can decide for your self -WAAAAAAUW that's an independent choice....

there have never been such country sweetie. no matter communist or not, the religion is always there. i have never heard that communism is totally denying God's existence anyway. and i have lived in one of those countries and still remember going to the church on Sunday.

if it would be like u said, then why they are celebrating Christmas, Easter, All Saint's Day? All those days were always off.

Communism is a political system which does not believe in organised religion.

Atheism is a belief and not depedendent on a political system but wouldn't be in favour a theocracy.
