BELGIUM PUT SANCTION ON WOMAN WITH VEIL!
BRUSSELS, June 5 (Reuters) - Belgian right-wingers have
offered to pay a 250 euros ($310) bounty to anyone who reports a
veiled woman to police, they said on Tuesday, in the wake of
face veil riots in Brussels.
Filip Dewinter, a senior figure within Vlaams Belang, a
right-wing party, told Reuters the riots had made police
apprehensive about enforcing the burqa ban and that the payment
should put pressure on authorities to further enforce it.
"It's a textile prison for the women who have to live under
it," he said.
It comes after protesters hurled bins and metal barriers at
a Brussels police station last week after a Muslim woman was
arrested for refusing to remove her face veil, or niqab.
A Brussels police spokesman said he was unaware of the money
being offered, but said any officer who sees a woman wearing a
niqab would issue a penalty.
"When someone is breaking the law we always have to
intervene, demonstrations or no, the niqab is prohibited," he
said.
Women in Belgium risk a maximum fine of 150 euros if they
wear a full face veil in public. Belgium and France both banned
the wearing of full veils in public last year.
Dewinter said he was not aware how many people had already
responded to the offer of a bounty.
A spokeswoman for Belgium's federal police said the legality
of the bounty was a question for the judiciary, but if someone
felt insulted by it they could file a complaint with the police.
Police in Belgium are investigating last week's riots and
arrested 13 members of the Islamist group Sharia4Belgium on
Sunday, the police spokesman said.
Sharia4Belgium was not immediately available to comment.

Next time I read a blog, I hope that it does not disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, however I really thought you'd have something useful to say. vi cam tay
It is the Belgians right to pass those social restrictions its people see fit to impose. While I have not problem with face veils, I also have no problem with a culture deciding to ban them. If people want to where them in Belgium it become incumbent upon them to persuade the majority that veils are acceptable. Rioting and sending death threats, as have been done there and in France, is not the way to persuade people to change their minds. If anything it makes them more firm in their belief (wrong IMO) that Islam is intolerant and oppressive of women.
I said this on the thread "Public decency law in Qatar" and I say the same here:Laws are laws. Anyone knows not all laws will appeal or seem fair by everyone. However they are to be followed..period.
As for those Muslimahs who wish to adorn the veil, then it is upon all of them who can and are able, to hold onto patience and do all they can to move to lands where it is legal and permitted. Forget about anyone telling them this, God Himself has commanded us that should we find ourselves oppressed by not being allowed to practice our religion, then we need to make all the efforts to migrate to lands that will give us the rights to do so.
I know of girls back in Belgium, including a very dear friend, who do love veiling but are unable to do so, and it fills me up with admiration to see how much they are trying to leave their lands. My friend is single, and her way of doing so is trying hard to find either a husband or a job in lands that allow veiling.
As for those who want the comforts and benefits of their home land and/or the love of their family and familiar surroundings, then the sad truth is as of now, you just cannot have it both ways.
For the record I do find the law oppressive towards those Muslims who wish to willfully follow an act of the religion, but who's to convince those in power? And as Muslims we know also that when we find ourselves in trials we need to question as to where we wen't wrong. And the harsh truth is that along with many factors, such sanctions have come about due to the misdeeds of Muslims themselves as well. Because you have those misguided and evil individuals who indulge in acts like terrorism, discrimination against women etc, today people around the world are reacting by cutting things off completely, which means even we have to suffer the consequences.. Allahu Must3aan.
A sad sad state of affairs no doubt. But again God is with the patient and strong of will and faith and God helps those who help themselves, and thankfully the earth is indeed spacious!
I suppose they can do better... if they resist they should also use tar and feathers...
I'm with kan93, the Muslim countries should have veiling centres at the airport when these evil western women arrive so that they can be veiled before being let out into the wild. If they resist they should be tranquillised and painted black.
Have a look search on google and look for sharia4belgium and sharia4holland see how 10-15 idiots give a total wrong picture of islam. Then you can understand why this right wing party reacts like that. In summary, give the full story and avoid such shortsighted postings
Muslims countries should put ban on without vail womenes and fine them...
damn some people have selective reading!
Who said men could wear a veil?
But come to think of it why aren't men required to wear a veil to stop women having impure thoughts?
So men can wear a veil in public with no issues...
lol...
I think a few tried it at some banks in the west, don't believe they fared to well...
always a tough one to mix religion and govt...
but good for the banter..
And yes it would seem that banning people from covering their face would fly in the face of the freedom of the West.
BUT people are still allowed to cover their hair etc.. And like it or not in Western culture covering your face in public is not common practice and most people find it quite scary. And it applies to any face covering not just religious ones!
Really doesn't matter the basis of the rule..
Religion or Govt...
When someone forces their views on you, it is wrong.
apples and oranges..both are fruits..
mozaismyhero is correct..
And because it's never the men but only against women, it's discrimination by gender, and that alone is illegal in Europe and against the (so-called) Human Rights of the UN.
hahaha
Some guys are on here are unbelievable...
You must follow our rules when you are in our country...
But we don't have to follow the rules of other countries because we don't believe in the reasoning behind it!
Can anyone say Hypocrisy???
Most Westerners don't agree with the dress code here but we abide by it...
Why?
I tolerate but I don't have to respect.

'in Europe the veil ban is based on racial profile solely.'
What utter nonsense
The home affairs committee of the Brussels federal parliament voted unanimously to ban the partial or total covering of faces in public places.
This applies to everyone and includes every type of facial covering.
Seriously I think there are more important problems in the world than whether a woman shows a bit of leg or she covers her face. Why do people always want to persecute woman in this way, its never the men.
But they DO tell you here that your dress is too short!
There is no reason to tell anyone to wear more or less clothes where ever they are in the world. It is nobody's business except the person wearing the clothes.
This cannot be compared to the dressing code here for one basic reason, in Europe the veil ban is based on racial profile solely. There is no reason to disallow anybody from wearing MORE clothing. Even though it might be true that veils can be used for disguise, but that doesn't mean you can disallow it everywhere, that's plain stupid especially when it comes from countries that 'seek freedom'. And the bounty makes it even more ridiculous.. As for the dressing code in Qatar, it's based on religious beliefs and nothing more. Apples and oranges.
We must respect every ones faith.
As I understand it..
They have only banned veils that completely cover the face, you are still allowed to cover your hair etc....
Why worry about it. Its just a publicity stunt by a right wing organisation looking to hit the headlines..
What happens in Belgium and France is really no different than here in the Middle East..
If you think about it, women here are not able to wear certain styles of clothing (in public)..
It will always be difficult when religion and government meet.
well line up a few thousand women and call in to report them...
ka-ching....
lol
To be frank, if they don't like it, then they should go back to where they came from. I am serious, as are the people here on QL who always say the same to someone questioning a "bad" thing happening in this country! Equal rights for all. In their country, it's their rules. Basta! Europe should NOT try to spill democracy and personal freedom among the believers!! Let them be under-cover, but let them live where they are comfortable as such. Surely NOT in Europe.
I guess you can blame God for this. He should have made humans with built in head coverings and veils that way no human or country can tell you to take them off.
yes i agree... the head cover is totally different... that is just ridiculous and i would have expected more from the french. But it guess they are just playing stupid at the moment and they are going to change things specially because there are lots of Muslims in Western Europe.
Yes people should be allowed to wear what they want in public, whether in Qatar or Belgium
But as the standard response on here goes - If you don't like it feel free to go back to your own country!!! :-0
welcome to the european way of thinking...
The problem is we like to see the faces of the people that walk on the street, or bump into them in the supermarket. We don't believe that a woman should hide her face because of religious beliefs or any other reasons.
HOWEVER i am extremely surprised... we keep an open mind but i have never heard of something like this before. It should be their choice, weather they want to cover their faces or not.
BUT THERE IS ANOTHER ISSUE:
Women in the Middle East MUST follow the dressing code which has certain limitations regarding skirt size, shoulder coverage and cleavage. This "rule" is for all the women, not only the locals.
Since european ladies are following these rules (more like guidelines) it seems only fair that Muslim ladies do the same in Europe.
The first comment is serious, the second was for the self righteous to get upset about....
It really helps some of the hairy, ugly women from certain parts of the world go out in public so we should show our support.
This is ridiculous, unless the woman is entering a sensitive building such as a bank or government offices, (the same as motocycle helmet wearers) then she should be allowed to wear what she wants in public.
