Big Deal Pres. Obama Bows Japan's Emperor?

fareena
By fareena

Should Pres. Obama's bow for the Emperor of Japan be taken as a sign of weakness and disgraced the great United States of America? Republicans capitalized on this and termed as "ugly" but Democrats took this as a gesture of kindness and proper protocol. Personally, I am seeing The President taking a very dynamic approach in representing the new USA to the world.

dust that they can turn into a hill.

this is purely pride that can stop running into the veins of the White Reps.

The thing is that republicans (my hubby being one of them) would be the first to deny that the critical remarks are NOT because he's african american. ;)

both ways, the good president is doomed since winning the Presidency. If only the Republicans can chew up their pride, accept the reality of what the world wanted and work with a black president (which is of course a slap on their face), we would be heading to a happier world.

The sad thing is that Obama is damned if he does or damned if he doesn't do WHATEVER.

There is so much preparation and briefing when the president meets and greets leaders from all over the world. This was proper, but the anti-Obamas of the world, OF COURSE, are going to slam him...aren't there bigger problems in the world that need media attention.

It must be a slow day for reporting and blogging. :(

he just probably bowed down, to conjure with the japanese culture... which means respect.

a handshake from Chenney is okay but the President's bow is greatly appreciated...

A visiting president or even an ordinary well mannered person should not only respect the tradition, custom and protocol of his own country but most especially the host's country he is visiting.

But former Vice Pres Dick Chenney never did. he just greeted the Emperor with a firm handshake but no bow.

Taking the news from Fox News, everything about Pres. Obama seems inappropriate. When Fox News starts stalking about The President, i shut the TV off!

i think it's protocol and venturing to different kind of approach is really a blast, if they call it different.

But Brit it's a way of greeting people there. If someone doesn't greet their leaders, they would be upset for sure. But if someone comes and greets them the Japanese way, why is anyone having a problem with it, I don't understand.

According to Wesley Prudent, editor emeritus of The Washington, Obama "stopped just this side of the full grovel to the emperor of Japan, risking a painful genuflection if his forehead had hit the floor with a nasty bump, which it almost did. No president before him so abused custom, traditions, protocol (and the country he represents)."

Several Internet sites have published a rogue's gallery showing how other national leaders have greeted Emperor Akihito with a friendly handshake and an ever-so-slight but respectful nod, and sometimes not even that.

I don't think the Japanese even noticed it for something more than what it was. Some people just look for controversy in everything.

It's called diplomacy. Sign of respect and Im sure the US scored big points with the Japanese for doing that.
