Braving Out...
The subject article was published a week back by Al-Jazeera & is written by Mr. Robert Grenier, CIA Chief in Islamabad (1999-2001) & former Director of CIA's Counter Terrorism Centre. I found it quite interesting & thought it worth of sharing. The link to full article is as follows:

"One hears the stories of building frustration, of bitter complaints against a government so often indifferent in the best of times, and simply unequal to the challenge in these, the worst of times.
But this is not what I see in the photographs, in the images of entire families clinging to trucks to gain higher ground, of people stranded on roof-tops or on the raised strips of highways, of those isolated and forlorn, reaching for a bottle of clean water or a packet of sodden food dropped from a helicopter.
In these images one looks in vain for signs of hysteria, or for righteous indignation. What one sees instead is what one always sees in Pakistanis - endurance: Simple, often noble, endurance.
I have lived some years among Pakistanis. I cannot claim to have done them much good. Instead, my preoccupations have been those which animate the game of nations. I have served a great power which hunts its enemies, pursues its interests, and tries to meet what it sees as its responsibilities in distant places, far from home. I make no apology for this; neither do I expect great credit.
But one cannot travel among the Pakistanis, as I have been privileged to do, without developing a great admiration for their decency and their dignity.
I have found the mass of Pakistanis to be honest, hard-working, devoted to their faith and to their families, hospitable and generous almost to a fault, and devoted to the defence of right as God has given them to see it. But more than anything else, I have come to admire their capacity for endurance."
all pakis are honest, sincere and hardworking..I think feudal lords and corrupt politicians are foreigners..
Most of the people are honest, sincere, hardworking and kind.
The problem is the feudal lords and the corrupt politicians / judiciary who make their life a misery..
I've never been to the houses of my PAKISTANI friends but i really like the way they speak..It's full of respect and each words are like as if somone has filled our ear with SUGAR/HONEY....:))
Generous and hospitable....go to their houses and you will understand how hospitable they are. Most of the time I have difficulty walking back to my car cos I am so stuffed with delicious food.
The Pakistanis I know are wonderful that is why i find the tragedy in their country so heartbreaking. They deserve so much better.
I'm in the team for the QLSG soccer... you need coaching on how to catch the ball? :-P
and the body of this thread? I would expect the title to be "Endurance" and when I check the original article, it was indeed!
In any catastrophic tragedy such as what happened in Pakistan, survival is the name of the game, so sometimes, endurance here will mean stretching your limit as just to survive! The outside world really need also to stretch more its helping hands so as to alleviate the morals of the people affected by this disaster.
its safe for now till the end of Ramadan..:)
you can roam freely withou any fear..:)
Ja bachay, mazay kar :)
The few paki friends I have here in Doha are better than some of my Indian friends. Now I dunno if I have made the wrong Indian friends, but that is just the way it is.
To me, the media and politicians are to blame for our current scenario... and some few extremist groups.
Is my rear safe now? ;-))
nice read..:)
Media is the most powerful tool to twist and make opnion of masses...
