Interesting point about Hindi not having a word for 'DIVORCE'. But as tinker pointed out, there are many more languages than 'hindi' for 'hindus'. (Lets hope the spellings dont mislead people :-p) . In fact, from a strictly theological point of view it is Sanskrit thts the language in which the texts have been written not Hindi.
Which lead me to look for words for Divorce in Sanskrit and this is what I found. Should say this is new to me too, but the words sound oddly familiar.
1. Divorce: Parityagah ( N ); Vivahavichhedah ( N )
Vivahalopah ( N )
(Pari+Tyaj ( v.t. 1 PP )
Vivaham Lopaya ( causal or Prayojak of Lup, 10 PP ))
2. Divorcee (Male & Female called)
*** Parityaktah ( N, M ); Parityakta ( N F )
3. Re-marriage of the divorcee.
*** Punar+Bhoo ( 1 PP ) >>>>>>>>Punarbhooh ( N F & M )
Punar+Vaha ( 1PP )>>>>>>>>>Punaroodah ( N M ), Punaroodha ( N)
A search for the etymology of 'Divorce'tells me that the word has its origins around 14th century. Wonder what it was called before that!
(late 14c., from O.Fr. divorce (14c.), from L. divortium "separation, dissolution of marriage," from divertere "to separate, leave one's husband, turn aside" (see divert). Not distinguished in English from legal separation until mid-19c. The verb is late 14c., from O.Fr. divorcer)
I did not get the joke.. Who is choota bheem?
P.S. - Please don't give up on your dream Kareena. We do have the most eligible bachelor left back home - 'Choota Bheem'. ;-)(Joke - no offence.)
or ma shaa allah
good for us lebanese(min gher 7aside)
can get divorced in the UK - it has become 'acceptable' but not ideal.
You cannot however re marry and have a full Catholic wedding service; you can only have a civil wedding ceremony and in the ‘eyes of the Catholic Church’ that is not recognised. You may (rarely) find a sympathetic Priest who allows you a blessing.
If the marriage is annulled that is a different matter.
In Arab countries does one have to legally register for divorce ? If not, than how can one obtain the official recordings about the number of divorce cases in these countries. Certainly the above data is not based on hearsay, or is it ?.
Alter Dusty.com I did not say Religion its self but the pressures of Culture in this part of the world which is governed by religion!
Most of the men in this part of the world prefer women who have not been married before compared to the divorced one. Yes and you should also keep you big mouth shut if you don't understand. I was responding to Kareena74 and not you!
I'm not talking about that. I am talking about when the Lords in consultation with the CofE finally got rid of any remaining blasphemy laws.
The law against the defamation of religions is a different peace of legislation.
Uranus, it's a law against the "defamation of religions". It doesn't mean that religions have a legal status with legal consequences.
Blasphemy laws were not abolished in England and Wales until 2008.
Is why I wanna go to EU now :-P
Colt, I spoke about Europe. Since a couple of hundreds of years the church has no legal power!
She dumped me coz I'm possessive :-( Now I have to go back to the wife :-P
I think in India, Church marriages are considered legal binding and have legal consequences.
Don't worry.. You will get over it..
sorry Colt, i know its coz of me, she dumped you....:(
Marriages based on a religious law are not legally binding in Europe. Marriage is a legal contract and can be terminated as such. You marry in an office. Marrying in church is an option for the 'romantic', but it has no legal consequences!
My gf just dumped me :-(
Protestant Christians can get divorced.
Wut up?
Islam is the only religion that permits divorce.. Other than that as far as I understand, no other religion permits divorce. The Catholic church does not for sure and as far as Hinduism is concerned, there isn't even an equivalent word in Hindi for divorce and they are using the Arabic/Urdu word Talaaq.. Islam does not encourage divorce though, in fact it is the most disliked among the halaal things in the eyes of God but it is allowed nevertheless under irrepairable circumstances.. But unfortunately, people do not understand that and they take undue advantage of this clause in the Islamic law.
Buddhism does not permit remarriage, it's just that the modern laws implemented in Buddhist, Hindu countries that permit divorce and remarriage..just a correction.
All humans have the right to be happy.
Tis really calls for it xoxoxoxo =D
Interesting post...so SL figured in at #34? Not surprising given the rise in divorces back there in the recent years. However its not always easy for a Lankan woman to remarry. Nothing to do with religion though since Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam all permit remarriage for both men and women. The difficulty is due to the stigma attached to divorcees, specially those with kids, due to the lack of broadmindedness and biases in our societies. However Inshallah things seem to be improving since of late which is a relief. People are getting more streetwise and up to date..even the older generation. No longer are people willing to put up with messed up marriages due to social pressure. And many more are remarrying too!
But I have noticed something.. Just not in Qatar but even in my own country.. Once a woman gets divorced, it is often very easy to remarry.. But it is the most difficult to get married the first time.. It is like this, if you start the cycle once and you get it going, then you might stumble on a stone but somehow you get past it and continue your journey but till the time you start, you are stuck at the Start point..
MBK
U were supposed to keep shut your big mouth for not discussing again those things which U don't know.
Can U tell me , where religion of locals says not to re marry???
But then these divorced women must find it so hard to re-marry due to cultural and religious pressures on them..
Alter D. yup i got it back, Thankx to a good MOD.he/she had it fixed.
I work for a government company here in Qatar and have plenty of local women as friends.. 50 percent of them are divorced from their local husbands and the rest are spinsters in their 30's and 40's..
seantrump
so U got back ur password? ;)
not only westerns even Asians....:(
Alter D. hey buddy whats up.A naval base is something is just a remnant of the umbilical vascular bundle.that is the point where blood vessels penetrate the fetus from the placenta.
So you were saying about a Naval base?
i heard Qatari's are only divorcing their western wives out of 4???
So what if the Qatar is 12th on the list. what does it matter if you divorce one of the four wives.. Still doesnt make you a divorcee here..:)
Kareena Jee, its still rocking, just yesterday night i was with friends in a party on superhighway.
lol Khanan
Never knew a Naval Base mean All Pakistan.
And it really hurts me a lot. My country used to be so peaceful... karachi used to be a rocking place at one time.. Oh the good old days
we were being told that Pakistan is under attack!
Game is over for the time being...but its not the end!!
How are things in Karachi? Any updates?
No Khanan

I dont have any issue of her being a he or she or having friends or no friends...all I said is she sounds.....and she want to knwo why she is not getting a MAN.
You must be mistaking me for someone else.. I do not have any other ID besides the one I am using.. I have always been Kareena74 on QL..
Meoowww !
time to grab the pack of bobcorn and bebsi....:)
I love it!!
Bebsi and bob corn!!
You were stupid enough to create an id with your real name and you were as desperate as this in that id too.
[Stop! Mod]
Formatted Soul, I do not know any one in Real from here.. I do not have any friends on Qatar Living.. I mean I do not know anyone personally and if anyone is claiming that he knows the real person behind Kareena74 then he or she is definitely lying..
[Stop! Mod]
Please get a life.. and try to lighten up.. Whatever I write here should be taken with a pinch of salt.. First of all Kareena is not my real name and most people who know the real me do not know that my nick here is Kareena.. And I definitely do not go around telling every person I come across that hey listen, I have a alter ago Kareena74 on Qatar living so before we proceed any further, please check out my profile there..
Khattak..who is HE and who is SHE??
Fs..I remember her when she took the QL forum on storm.. :)
britey i am serious....LOL
dont try to divert my mind or my fingers or this topic....:)
Qatar's divorce rate is artificially low, because it only takes into account people who divorce in Qatar--i.e. not the expats with family here or the legions of expat workers whose families are in their home countries. When taking this into account, Qatar has one of the highest rates in the world along with other GCC countries.
Now I'm really confused.. Is Rizks a He or a She ?
Rizku...
he and she are both same except she has an s in the beginning.
I am surprised at the figures, because a similar table from the UN puts Russia and the communist block countries at the top.
You ask about Qatar - Well the simple answer is that society here is changing and women are now being more assertive. This is leading to breaking of old cultural stigmas and divorce is on the rise.
Having said that, the same reasoning could be used in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc.
If you are talking about Kareena74...some of your fellow men know her in real...and they can confrim that its a SHE..lol
but who is "he" and who is "she" now ? :(
Khattak...
Are you he or she... You made me confused...
Khattak..who are you talking about?
So, you all agree that he is she? :P
Intelligent... I guess for such females.... there are other ways to fulfill their desires than drooling over here. I dont think its boldness..its the height of desperation.
FS... Atleast Kareena is open and bold to say. There are few other (Females) on QL who drool all the time reading such comments. LOL
Kareena sorry to say...from what you write here on QL...you always sound very desperate...I dont think any good guy single or divorced would want to have a wife like you.
Brunei is at number 19 and has similar characteristics to Qatar ...
New Zealand: 2.63 per 1,000 people !
Can you divorce sheep ?
painther....what is "Saheb" in English? :P
And...K74 lives in this part of the world where Men to Men is not practice 8-)
What makes Qatar stand out from the rest of the Middle East and it made its way to that position?
Why are people ignoring the main point of this article that I posted.. Why is Qatar on number 12?
And a straight woman that is so obviously I want to marry a man.. Yeah surprisingly Pakistan and India are not on the list.. I guess it means divorce is still pretty rare in our countries. SriLanka is on number 34 though.. The only South Asian country which made its way to the list..
khattak......hello excuse me I'm posting in english only....you mean my ID is not 'english'....iT IS....(don't google guys..lol)...bytheway Khattak,...your ID is not english...lol
painther.....English Only on main forum :(
Khattak wrong....!!
(you must be from my old school)
Now men also marry with men.....!!
(and they have their child too.... lol
..and refused to comment on this thread as neither India nor Pakistan is in list....:( unless offcourse maulana-saheb visited ..lol
To marry a man...one has to be a woman.
Why I am not able to find even a divorced man to get married to.. There are no divorced men in Pakistan or India.. Hmmm that explains my situation.. hahaaa
LMAOROFL........you are toooooooooo much ...!!!!
Shhhhh Khanan.....dont disclose the coordinates now. The place may come under "Drone Attack" :(

Maulana Hazrat KHATTAK Karakwala....ROFL

B2D...nobody understands your French either :P
Rizku...feel free to play 'talaak talaak talaak' with your wife.....but dont mess with the word "TwalaaQ" :P
Duly Attested by: Mufti Imam Allam Maulana Hazrat KHATTAK Karakwala.
English only in main forum :P
So what?
Muft Khor Khattak, we meant "TwalaaQ" by the way....:(
Mufti Imam Allama Maulana KHATTAK says, its "TwalaaQ TwalaaQ TwalaaQ"...until the word is not spoken properly...it wont come into effect :P
even Pakistan is not in the list ? :(
..only possible word is in Urdu, 'Talaaq' originating from Arabic
I think its the LAST option for Indians..:)
then u might heard the word " Talaak Talaak Talaak" and Game over....:(
colt, i heard in Hindi there is no word like DIVORCE?
Why is India not on the charts??? :-P
