Great Britian or United Kingdom?
By lyndon_joseph •
Call me innocent but till now, I don't know the difference between Great Britain and United Kingdom.
Maybe I was absent when my teacher in World History taught all about this great country.
I just want to know anything about great britain or united kingdom.

Wasn't Freddy Mercury Iranian?

Thanks Tryke...thanks 4correcting me...I never thought NI has a Kingdom as well.
It's the land that invented Cricket, Football & rugby.
It gave the world the Queens ( Her Majesty, Elton John and Freddie Mercury's group)
and so , so , so much more ..
I forgot Oryx, but thanks also Oryx
Thanks Britexpat, anything more inputs from you as your name suggests. Thanks
They got it correct to.
It's the reverse.
Great Britain = England + Scotland + Wales
UK = Great Britain + Northern Ireland
Land of Milk and Honey. Of Green pastures. Rolling hills and Mrs Dale.
wakawakawoo and tryke
so the answer to my question is:
Northern Ireland
thanks again!!
Great Britain is part of UK.. It is an island in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwestern coast of Europe, including England, Scotland, and Wales.
United Kingdom (UK) is a constitutional monarchy in northwestern Europe, occupying the British Isles with the exception of most of the island of Ireland. It comprises the historic kingdoms of England and Scotland, the principality of Wales, and the province of Northern Ireland.
UK = Great Britain + Northern Ireland
-
UK = Scotland England Wales and N.Ireland
GB = Scotland England Wales
so GB is bigger than UK?
thanks for the info, I thought its the other way around.
Are the Indians spreading to the Phillipines too? Geez, God save the poor Pinoys.

Great Britain is the short version of Kingdom of Great Britain which includes England, Wales and Scotland.
United Kingdom is the Short Version of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, (formally the Northern was omitted prior to Eire splitting from the Union)
So the real diference in simplistic terms is the inclusion of Northern Ireland.
People are Citizens (formally Subjects) of the United Kingdom not Citizens only of Great Britain. But they are also British which refers to English, Scots, Welsh and Irish peoples that make up the UK.
Yes you're right, I have seen several indian nationals in my country and they are into business like lending. I don't know wnat you call it but is called "5-6" in the Philippines.
UK is: Wales+Scotland+England
Great Britain is : All the above + Northern Ireland
I think this is it. Correct me someone if I am wrong.
We're pretty much staking claim in the Philippines too :-P
Amritsar/Chandni Chowk.
