Im so sick of hearing about Rascim in the West..

nadt
By nadt

Every day on QL theres are posts from some people who cry rascism and hatred against the West and its getting quite boring. If you dont believe there is rasicm in every country then you are very naive. Aside from whats happening politically around the world and western intervention(which i might add isnt one sided) you only have to look at the opportunities the west has opened for people for various reasons. They take them in, give them citizenship and have rights that are available for all no matter where you have come from.

How many other countries have opened their doors for people. I for one can say a big thank you to Australia who not only allowed us into the country at the start of the lebanese war in the 70's and assisted us with furniture, education etc etc and we didnt pay a single cent for that.(well we did evetually with taxes but at least if you are not working and new to the country, financial aid is available)

As a lebanese muslim I am allowed to practice my culture and faith with no problems, sure their some people who are racist but big deal, this happens everywhere, at least in Australia the law is not on anyones side. You cant control how people feel about you but if you experience racism at least you can take this up legally. Can you do this in the Middle east? I think not?

Look at what the middle east has done to the Palestians, they are scattered around the world(with travelling documents and restrictions) aside from Jordan, not one Arab country has given them citizenship except for the West, most dont even want them living in their countries, even though some are living in terrible conditions with no rights, how sad.....

So instead of people crying rascism all the time, look in your own backyard, fix your own countries problems and then attempt to fix others....  oh and try to grow up and take responsibility for your life...Nobody owes you anything...

LOL.booing the national anthem...thats funny...oh well for the people who didnt hear it due to the booing, heres the lyrics..lol..

Australians all let us rejoice

For we are young and free

With golden soil and wealth for toil

Our home is girt by sea

Our land abounds in Nature's gifts

Of beauty rich and rare

In history's page, let every stage

Advance Australia fair

In joyful strains then let us sing

Advance Australia fair

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross

We'll toil with hearts and hands

To make this Commonwealth of ours

Renowned of all the lands

For those who've come across the seas

We've boundless plains to share

With courage let us all combine

To advance Australia fair

In joyful strains then let us sing

Advance Australia fair

Communism placed the State above the individual, and regarded any expression of ethnic, rather than national, identity as anti-social.

A consequence of this was that demonstrations of ethnic and racial resentment were suppressed.

This did not mean that they didn't exist—merely that they were more or less contained.

With collapse of Communism, ethnic tensions and hatreds have been able to surface, with the disastrous consequences we are witnessing in parts of Europe today.

Since 1989, the human rights record in parts of eastern Europe has been abysmal.

Eastern European nations cannot simply pick and choose, selecting those aspects of democracy which appeal to them and ignoring those which don't; if the post-communist nations are to embrace democracy fully and successfully, the recognition of the equal worth of all human beings must become fundamental.

The alternative can only be disaster.

I worked with an older American guy who had been in Germany when the wall fell... He told me he started a relationship with an Eastern German who had come west and she told him that her grandmother told her that black people turned into werewolves after sunset...

He said she was dead serious about this and he had to 'convince' it was not true!

No system is perfect in practice.

The United States is the leading democratic republic in the world, but it, too, has problems.

Not because of discrimination in the law, but because of difficulties resulting from social attitudes which have become ingrained into the society.

To understand the roots of the racial problems in the United States, we must look to history.

The African American population was held in slavery for nearly four centuries, and during that time was systematically dehumanized as a people.

Following abolition, extra-legal forms of peonage, as well as segregation in education, transport, health care and so on have existed well into the 20th century.

That was an extreme example..

I am amazed by some things that go on nowadays..

Three years ago, I worked with a hick from South Carolina..He actually said that he hated blacks and had trained his dogs to attack them..

I kid you not!

Racism makes a whole country simply look bad. One may point to the universal condemnation of South Africa for so many years, and how it was excluded from participation in world events and world trade.

Racism is defined as "the belief in the superiority of a particular race."

... you talk about the race problem, the immigration problem, all sorts of problems. If you are liberal, you say that Black people have problems. If you are not, you say they are the problem. But the members of the new Europe have only one real problem; that problem is white people. Racism, of course, is not our problem; It is yours. We simply suffer the effects of your racism.

Racism must be recognized as a cancer which, if not checked, will lead us surely and inevitably into a catastrophic situation which has the potential to destroy Europe in a 2lst century chaos.

It doesn't work, Swissgirl39. In 1969 Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young already sang "Teach Your Children" at the Woodstock Festival. We're in the second generation now. Any changes?

unfortunately racism exists in any country.in some more,in some less.what we can do is to teach our children to be more tolerant and openminded, cos our children are the future of the world.

so dont talk about it,lets do it.

I worked in Harrisburg for a while ,.. great place, didn't see many non-whites.

Fox as we all know is a "right wing" channel, and we would expect nothing less from them. As the election gathers pace, I am sure that we will see more mud slinging and innuendo directed against Obama.

Racism exists in all walks of life. I experienced it in a black neighbour hood in Washington. Whites are racist against other white (Europe and eatern europeans). Blacks are racist against blacks (Nigerians and Ghanians).

generaly, things are much better now, then when i was a child.

The only thing we can do is to teach our children to be more accepting and tolerant. Perhaps in the long run it will make a difference.

As a black American, I can tell you that they only place I have been to where I did not notice racism was Morocco. The people weren't concerned with the color of people's skin.

In regards to the west, it is getting better but as many minority can tell you, there is still a long way to go. For example, Fox news calling Barak Obama's pound (fist bump) with his wife a terrorist strike or the same news channel calling Obama's wife his "baby mama".

If you doubt me, then come with me to Philly next summer, take a ride with me through several upscale white neighborhoods and you'll see for yourself!!!!

At last, a voice of reason amongst all the west bashers and the extremist mullahs!

Thank you, nadt!

...and yes thexonic, the west is amongst the least racist in the world, I just wish that some of these extremist "mullahs" the curently liive there and have all their rights and liberties upheld there wold just admit it!

Many of these so called "mullahs" live in the west, exercise their right to free speech and slam the west wherever and whenever possible, but are not so vocal about the good that the west do.  If they were this vocal against the way of life of many other countries, they would soon find themselve be locked up or even worse.

So thank you too, thexonic!

To be honest West is the only place which is least racist in the world.

For example: if 2 americans from different part meet up they will be like hey

nice to meet u, lets go have drinks sometime. But if 2 Asians meet up, they

will be like what part r u from, im from here, oh im from there go away, i dont

like people of ur part. lol... what can we say.

Anyone who talks of racism in the West really needs to check the facts and look at the history of the countries involved.

England for example allowed thousands of Indian Sri Lankans and Bangladeshis to settle in the country during the 60's now bear in mind England is not a rich place compared to....here..... England gave them full citizenship a passport and full and free access to the jobs market, oh and they also allowed them to move around in and out of the country without an exit permit.

Not bad for a small place that is not backed by billions in Oil and Gas wealth, how hard would it be for others to follow the shining example.

Oh and I am pretty sick of Qatar making frontpage headlines for initiatives like the Christian Church, Any one reading it from outside would think ONLY NOW you are getting a church how BACKWARDS are you. ( I think the Church is an excellent thing by the way, and although not religious am almost tempted to visit to see people mainly Filipino I imagine being able to worship and feel happy for an hour a week without having to put up with the rubbish they have to put up with every day from certain members of our society) Oh and hopefully they will form a massive Church group with weekly meeting planning ways to stick it to the man.

Wonder how long it will last,

Yes I agree nadt..

We should be grateful for the blessings we have recieved. Alhumdulilah .

Now that I have had a chance to read on QL I realize why everyong jumps on my back when I mention that racism also exists in the west. Its because all the easterners are jamming it down everyones throat everyday on QL and the middle east. And it is becoming rather tiresome to hear everyone ranting about it over and over again.

Nadt. There's a lot to be said for the right to free speech and civil liberties. Remember that many of these are developing nations, who have gained enormous wealth, but have not moved forward in other areas. They will either do so, slowly, but surely or cease to exist.
