Just wanted to say mabruk to all , especially the people of Lebanon. I've been listening to and watching the election of President Michel Sleiman in the Lebanese parliament.

May your country go from strength to strength and may peace reign in your land.

Qatar stands with you always.

"Let us unite... and work towards a solid reconciliation," Gen Suleiman said.

"We have paid dearly for our national unity. Let us preserve it hand-in-hand."

"I call upon you all, political forces, citizens, to start a new phase which is called 'Lebanon and the Lebanese people', in which we are committed to the national project, with a civilized mindset."

I am a South African. I have been following Lebanese politics for the past 3 years with great interest, because it reminds me so much of the struggle we endured in SA- the dark days and the unending depair. The euphoria in Lebanon this last week touches me deeply because I have experienced this same feeling when we had the democratic election in 1994. From the brink of a civil war South Africa turned into a party. It was felt as a miracle from God- and I see this happening again.I am very proud to be living in a country whose leaders were instrumental in this peace deal.

With the lead up to SA's first democratic election there was a this prayer circulating.I have substituted the word "Africa" for "Lebanon".

God Bless Lebanon,

Guide her leaders.

Guard her children

Bring her Peace.

Mabrouk Liban! I rejoice with you.
