Misunderstanding - 9/11

Every now and then it takes a true military mind to come up with a classic quote. In 2006, in an interview, General Norman Schwartzkof was asked if he thought there was room for forgiveness toward the people who have harboured and abetted the terrorists who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks on America.

His answer: "I believe that forgiving them is the God’s function. Our job is simply to arrange the meeting"

The ‘thinking’ that ‘America is at war on Islam’ actually stirred up anti-Americanism in most of the Islamic world. It is regrettable that due to lack of knowledge and understanding, a considerable number in the Muslim society today view any conflict involving the USA, a religious conflict instead a political one. This sentiment plays right into the hands of the extremists and to allow them to pervert the great religion of Islam and to achieve their evil ends.

The western democracies made some political errors in the past, which caused resentment and, in all fairness, lost their credibility in the eyes of the Muslims. But it is not about religion! I don’t think anyone can give a convincing answer. If all the conflicts are religiously motivated, why did the US and Europe involve themselves against Christian Serbia in favour of the Muslim Bosnians and Albanians, who have neither oil nor other resources?

Islam is a great religion, which brought so much civilisation to our planet, eg, science, mathematics, medicine, art, architecture, etc, while the other societies were still in the dark age of the Medieval Period. True Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. Christians and Jews lived harmoniously with their Muslim neighbours in medieval Spain whereas the Jews were persecuted elsewhere in Europe.

I believe that our societies need a new awakening and to return to what Islam stands for: peace, tolerance and civilisation.

History has taught us lessons through losses of lives in unimaginable dimensions due to religious discrimination. We should do all we can to fight against any smallest sign of this tendency to prevent it from spreading and doing real harm to people belonging to all religions. This is what our great religion Islam advocates.

mathboy, if us had not intervened in Bosnia you would have seen the first muslim theocratic state in Europe. Dont talk crap about their involvement. it was the Dutch forces which facilitated the massacre of Muslims I thinkin BanjaLuca who were supposed to be under their protection.
