Qatar, US ink several agreements, vow to advance strategic cooperation
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held official talks with the President of the United States of America Donald Trump at the White House yesterday.
The talks focused on cementing strategic ties between Qatar and the US through increased cooperation across various fields.
The two leaders also discussed some important regional and international developments.
On the occasion, the US President extended a warm welcome to HH the Amir and praised the strong and excellent bond between the two friendly countries, as well as his personal relationship with the Qatari ruler.
HH the Amir is a real leader who is highly respected in an important part of the world, the US President underlined. He also acknowledged Qatar’s significant investments in the US.
Highlighting the role of the Al Udeid Air Base and its strategic importance, Trump termed it as one of the biggest military bases in the world.
HH the Amir thanked the US President for the hospitality and affirmed the strength of the Qatar-US relationship.
While highlighting Qatari investments in the US, HH the Amir explained that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries has now exceeded $185bn.
He further extended an invitation to the US President to visit Qatar and the Al Udeid Air Base.
Following on, the two leaders witnessed the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the two nations.

The agreements comprised:
- an agreement between Qatar Petroleum and Chevron Phillips for the development of an international petrochemical complex in the Gulf Coast of the United States;
- agreements between Qatar Airways and General Electric (GE) and Boeing for the purchase of five Boeing 777 cargo planes and Gulfstream Aviation;
- an agreement in the field of air defense to provide Qatar with multiple additional systems of air defense.

Members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Amir attended the signing ceremony in addition to several US ministers and senior officials.
HH the Amir also attended a working lunch hosted by President Trump at the White House, during which the two leaders engaged in talks on strengthening Qatar-US strategic ties further.
