Saudi Clerics Advocate Adult Breast-Feeding

VANMOST
By VANMOST

Women in Saudi Arabia should give their breast milk to male colleagues and acquaintances in order to avoid breaking strict Islamic law forbidding mixing between the sexes, two powerful Saudi clerics have said. They are at odds, however, over precisely how the milk should be conveyed.

A fatwa issued recently about adult breast-feeding to establish "maternal relations" and preclude the possibility of sexual contact has resulted in a week's worth of newspaper headlines in Saudi Arabia. Some have found the debate so bizarre that they're calling for stricter regulations about how and when fatwas should be issued.

Sheikh Al Obeikan, an adviser to the royal court and consultant to the Ministry of Justice, set off a firestorm of controversy recently when he said on TV that women who come into regular contact with men who aren't related to them ought to give them their breast milk so they will be considered relatives.

Just as an aside and out of curiousity.. If a pope or any religious leader acts irresposibly or immoraly, then can we asume that he is advocating such behaviour for his followers ?

@ Vanmost, you might want to actually read before you post mate...the title is "Saudi clerics ADVOCATE adult breast-feeding."

Now if you would be so kind as to google "Pope/Bishops ADVOCATE sex/sex scandals" & kindly post the same link/s to enlighten us,we would be much obliged...until then,i suggest you don't compare apples & oranges...

To clarify,'cos i suspect you don't really catch my drift here...Popes & bishops are NOT ADVOCATING promiscuous behaviour & child abuse, this guy is ADVOCATING/PROMOTING this behaviour, bit of a difference wouldn't you agree?...

Popes are celibate and therefore above sex scandals... Didn't you know that ?

If you are, let me be the first to tell you.... everyone and everything gets bashed here... Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Jews.... West, East, fat, thin.... you post it, we'll bash it...

If you are going to be a regular poster here, don't get all upset about the small stuff...

Post your views and get on with it... no two people have the same ideals... you are wasting your breath if you think you will change anyones minds...

Britexpat:

If you google, you will find many sex scandals news of popes or you will find many bad news about Popes... So what does it mean, are there any issues with Christianity? No, certainly big NO...

Grow up and learn to respect others' religions.

Every Islamic or any other religious clerics have their own point of views because it's a proof that they are humans... But, eventually one day clerics come to any logical solutions or ideas.. because those fatwas or ideas will be implemented upon the humans of this earth not any aliens ...

Just because a Sheikh issues a Fatwa, it does not mean that it has to be adopted. This is a "suggestion" by an extrovert sheikh to the rest of the clerics. In this instance, it was treated by disdain and mirth by most of the scholars and the government alike.

I recall Pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church in the USA, telling his followers how gays are "out to rape their children in order to recruit them and says that the only way to stop them is to kill them".. Would the rest of the clergy follow his "fatwa" ?

I doubt it :O)
