Syria signs deal to allow Arab League observers into country - Government in Damascus bows to mounting international pressure as bloody uprising shows no sign of ending

... Syria has signed an Arab League initiative that will allow Arab observers into the country, as part of an effort to end the nation's nine-month-old crisis.

On a month-to-month mandate - "The observers will be "free" in their movements and "under the protection of the Syrian government," he said, but would not be allowed to visit sensitive military sites." - Fair.

Hope not too many hiccups with the implementation of this initiative which would allow independent, credible reporting so that the truth may be clearer.

Perhaps the difference is that Syria has a big brother nearby.

So the observers are there to watch the Syrian regime kill the protesters and civilians? That's a great step forward.

The Arab countries provided arms, money and assistance to overthrow Gaddafi. I wonder why they aren't so concerned about how their Syrian brothers and sisters are being butchered.

Definitely a delaying tactic. What is intriguing is the role Iraq is trying to play.

"under the protection of the Syrian government" reads: Under the control of the Syrian government! Forget it.
