Unwanted fleet at Crimeia
"Nikita Kruchtchev is the responsable for Moscow to be desperately looking for a base for their Black Sea fleet. After all, it was this son of Russian peasants who in 1954 offered to Ukraine the Crimea, a peninsula the size of the Alentejo region conquered by the Czars in the eighteenth century and until today inhabited by a majority of Russians. The purpose of this Soviet leader, who earlier was number one in Ukraine's Communist Party, was celebrating 300 years of unity between Russians and Ukrainians, the two largest Slavic peoples. Of course, the famous politician for having denounced the crimes of Stalin never imagined that in 1991 the Soviet Union disintegrating, emerging between Moscow and Kiev an unexpected animosity. And the first arm-rail was soon due to its Black Sea fleet, divided between the two nations, with the agreement to allow the Russian half still remain anchored in the port of Sevastopol. A rental contract that ends in 2017 and that pro-NATO Ukraine has already announced that it wont be renewed. Especially since Sevastopol in August was used by the Russians as a base to send ships to bombard Georgia, another former Soviet republic."

When it was the invasion of Georgia by Russians, someone was defending that Russia was astoninshingly superior to Ukraine, this article refers that The biggest fleet of former Soviet Union was splitted in 2 between Russia and Ukraine and this is 1 of the main reasons why Russia would never attack Ukraine.
"Also, whilst the fleet may have been split, the Ukrainians have not been in a positio to upgrade or fully maintain their ships..Many are just rust buckets.."
Brit: Just like Russia's fleet?
Rass: A few weeks ago, at newspapers, it was said that Russia economy depends mostly of the exports they make to Europe and that they need European technology, and in conclusion they say both need each other.

I would have to go along with Rassadko on this.. The Europeans are very dependent on Russia..
Also, whilst the fleet may have been split, the Ukrainians have not been in a positio to upgrade or fully maintain their ships..Many are just rust buckets..
Europe depends more from Russia then you might think.
I think this idea of see Russia in the EEC bit nonsense, I want to be wrong, but Russia is here to give lots of troubles to EEC.
You've a wrong idea about Russia politik, and power.
Don't also forget the markets Russia have, and the countries they can divert petrol..... let the actual crises go away, and you'll se the oil prices raise again.... and all Europe with yellow smiles taping Medvedev back on front page of newspapers.
Check mate.....
Rass: without Ukrania, EEC is already 10x stronger than Russia, now imagine when Ukrain joins EEC, it will transform European Union in about 12x Russia economy, Ukraine is also big, but smaller than russia, i do belive Russia destiny is joining EEC

Portugal 28" GDL Mainline pipeline come from the Magreb by Spain
and is connected to the European net in Braga/Tuy.
As far as I know, cause I work in those Projects, long time ago.
Russia is still a great power, the world biggest and richest country, with a vast unexplored sources of energy, but is true that most army power is to old to be used.
Check mate.....
Rass: As far as i have read, some other countries out of Europe, still think that Russia is still as strong as it was Sovietic Union, but the Soviet army was splitted in between Russia and Ukraine.
Those pipelines feed most Europe, not all, some countries as Portugal get it from North Africa (Libia and Tunisia).
This article came today on the newspaper, dunno why.

The power that Russia have now is just the pipelines that feed Ukraine, and Europe with the petrol and gas.
Russia confirm the departure of the Crimea in 2017, so I don't understand the post.
The case of Georgia, is more complicated then it looks like, decades of war in the region, between Abkassia and Ossetia with Georgia for independency, in my opinion, they deserve this Independence like the people in Timor had, and the Tibet people is fighting for.
Russia in this case is not the Big Smelly Nasty Bear that the Western Media is trying to impose us.
Love Russia
