Zakat on gold
By arabicstudent •
How to calculate zakat on gold? Is it on selling price or cost price. Of course the common sense says it is on selling price which is about 70% of cost price. But most references on the net says it is the cost price. It is unfortunate our Mullas give fatwas without considering even simple market economics. Can anyone throw some light on this?
weight of gold and market price of that gold at its purity or caratage e.g. 200 grams gold of 22 caret with today's market price without making charges ,50 grams of gold of 24 carat at market price at today's rate without making charges or any other kind of commission etc,18 carat gold will be definitely costing lower .Can request jewellery to estimate wt of stones for deduction.
Someone answered to pay zakat at value of purchase price which is not the case.Imagine persons paying zakat at rates prevailing decades ago, what about the gold received as gift .
Stay clear ,weight and current market rate of that purity gold will be the best deciding factors to pay zakat.
Confirm from the people who know this matter, until you get to the truth,
Allah knows the best.
it's not a big deal to pay your zakat on the buying rate also, if you have 500 gm of gold you'll have the difference of 125/-Riyals only.
and say Alhamdulillah on his SWT blessing that You are among Sahib-e-Nisabs.
its on current price....
it's on cost price. not on selling price. as told above, just go to a jeweler and have them evalauate their cost, and pay zakat accordingly.
u only consider the selling price if ur selling them, than the zakat will be on the money u earned, not on the gold.
It is on the value (the current market price) of the gold in your possession. The amount that you'll have to shell out to purchase the same quantity of Gold as of the day you calculate your zakat. Go by the books instead of believing the Mullas. Because fatwa is invalid if the issue is well documented.
Take your all jewelry to any jewelry shop, but make sure it is not rush time, jewelers will professionally tell you the actual weight after deducting stones’ weight on your request. Ask them the selling price per gram and calculate your Zakat yourself.
Do you know how to calculate it?
