16000 QAR Salary ( Inclusive of Everything)

Hey Peeps,

I wanted to know what you guys think about 16000 QAR/Month as an offer for someone coming from India which includes housing and transport, I had 1.25lakhs/month after tax salary in India-IT and will be moving to Doha. I also figured out accomodation in a compund for 4000/QAR per month on sharing basis. My work location will be 2kms from where I would live.

Also, how difficult it is to get a driving licensce and a car in Doha?

TIA

I guess some of your issues are related to moving to a new place and new culture. It will fade away in a few months. Since the salary is tax free here, the effect is better for your savings. Also if you open NRI account, you will get better benefits. I feel you have to worry about your career growth other than about other small issues. I did not face any discrimination here, though some people will take time to understand your skills. If you keep up dignity in your actions and show your skills people will show respect. Respect has to be earned by your behavior and action, not by being part of a race or nationality.

I cannot believe that I have had so many replies on this post, first of all apologies for not replying on this post and thank you for all the times you folks have taken to reply to me with good intent.

I moved here in the last week of January 2016 and to say the least I was frustrated, annoyed with the rules and quite a lot of things even though I knew it was not going to be easy.

To put things in perspective, I am single and also I have some solid 10 years of work experience behind me in IT, even though it sounds like a cliche, I moved here not only for money but mostly for the experience, culture because why not I am 29 and single and I was hoping that I could do a MS at Qatar University.

I was put up in a nice hotel at Grand Qatar Palce for first 15days, even though I had figured a place to live, I decided to stay put in the hotel for 15days because they served really good continental breakfast which I enjoyed

Most of you folks got it right about the savings, Here is the breakdown about how I Want to spend and save

4000 - Rent [ 3BHK Villa in Al-Thumama ] - was lucky to find this place because it is about 1km walk to my workplace and really friendly and helpful European housemates

200 - Internet and Electricity bills

1000 - Food, I cook, eat out on some days, this includes the groceries.

500 - Taxi to work one way [ Considering summer is coming ]

1000 - Personal expenses

550 - Gym [ Elite Fitness Club ] - Expensive as HELL, but it is the only closest gym

I will be saving about 8750 , I must say I lead a very comfortable life for about 7k and I was aiming at about 7-8K of savings.

I must say, I almost thought of returning back and did not open my bags for about 10days, it was frustrating not being able to walk around, not having anyone to talk to but once I moved with into the Villa, the folks were really nice and I am enjoying living with them and I hope they feel likewise. Fortunately all three of them have a licensce because apparentely Europeans dont need to attend the test because of similar road rules

Some points if someone is planning to move to Doha

* Make sure you choose the best place to live in, it is important because you come to a different country altogether and after a tough day, home is the only place where you want to go to

* If you want people to talk to you, you need to be friendly and smile and talk and ask questions

* Dont over think what people assume of your country, understand that stereotyping is common everywhere

* Yes, as Indians ,a lot of us go through discrimination mostly because we work for less money, which is cheap labour, take it in your stride and work through the politics and other stuff

* Accept that not everyone welcomes you like you want to, but it will change and people will accept you.

* Everything is 2X or 3X times expensive, stop converting into rupees or your own currency, it will take time to stop doing that, do it , it will be easy on your mind

It is very very important to find a good place to live in, consider spending 25% of salary. Clean, furnished, good place, pool, gym, jacuzzi will atleast take 25% of salary. Also if you are not married, most compounds/villas will not allow you to rent a place, lucky for me that my housemate is married.

Over all, I am happy where I live and what I do, feel free to ask questions

@gautam_s :

Think twice before moving.. They just give 16000 QAR including everything. U have a handsome salary in India after tax.more or less calculation is same as mention in this forum. you can save hardly 8000/-. Driving Licence is very hard to get .. Full waiting list in all school. take one year time frame for Dl. QATAR is very expensive compare to other GCC country.

2. Petrol price is going down day by day. many employment termination is going . please check employment contract carefully. dont plan for 1-2 year .. you only disturb your routine life. Do DM for any clarification

@gautam_s:- In India If you were getting 1.25 lakhs after tax, then may be you should get 2-2.5 times that salary here. It's just a thumb rule i use. If we look at it that way, I think this salary is justified. The best part is you are single and hence you would be able to save a good amount of money. 16k-4k(rent)-1k(Food)-200(Phone)-800(Transportation)-500(Miscellaneous). Since you're planning to stay near by your office transportation cost would be low. Your savings would be around 1.7lacs which is highly unlikely in India no matter what and the standard of living will be definitely better than back home. As far as driving licence is concerned, It is really difficult to obtain one these days, my colleague has been trying for one for the last 6 months and every time he comes back disappointed .

Just a piece of my thoughts:- If you're not planning for a long term stay, you can do without a licence. :P

This is a good enough salary. If the organization is of repute, I suggest you to join. getting driving license is bit difficult, but not impossible. it depends on your designation, if it is engineer, there is no problem

At this market condition which is worse and getting qar 16000 is actually very good. The rents here are comparitively cheaper than other gcc. Commodities are not expensive. Avoid unnecessary loans. Keep a decent lifestyle. Keep the intention of saving and you can

I ve seen ppl who are getting 700 , 7000 and 70000 all are happy in their own way.

Yes if you are hired for GM post then it will be useless to join in 16000qr.

Kindly take a start, the starting salary only youvwpuld get higher in government sector but in pvt wll , 16000qr quite decent.

Again whats your profession , experience & skills all are counted at the time of salary demand and offer.

Yes if u r getting 1.25lac in India then 16000 is little lesser.

It should be atleast 20000qr.

However take a chance to get more in future!

Best of luck!

@Wild Turkey...if you dont want to give a proper answer at least dont make fun of him.......there is no MM commented here.......

@Gautam......dear getting an accommodation in 4000 QR for family its a sweet dream here, you can get a sharing accomodation in that amount so lets consider in this way 16,000-4000(Rent)-1500(food)-500(phone)-230(internet)-1500(car installment depend on you)-500(shopping)=7,770 (Bal)*18(exchange rate)=1,40,000 INR /month & getting a driving licence is a hectic process here..........I am not discouraging you but think twice as your monthly Income is almost the same now in India,if they will give good offer than this with family status+kids education+medical+car & mobile allowance then only you can save something otherwise its very expensive here....think & check your PM for further guidance.
