20k basic + benefits good for Qatar?

michaeel
By michaeel

I have been offered a job recently in a senior engineering position within the construction industry. I have around 10 years experience with 4 years in the gulf region already.

The offer is:

20,000 QR Basic
2,000 QR Car allowance
30,000 QR per year for 2 children 4-18 years (will that cover school fees)
A 3 bedroom apartment inclusive of utilities.
Medical cover for family
1 ticket to UK (home) for family
25 day annual leave.

I have 2 children aged 3 and 5, would 30k per year cover school fees at this age? I am british so preferable a British carriculum school.

Think fuw is right - should try to nego for a villa. Accommodation is the budget buster. The QR30k per child should be ok - since 'me and you' pays 26k for her son at DESS.

If I were you with 2 kids I wouldn't accept an apartment. There aren't many facilities for children here except maybe if you are lucky with your compound and it has some space for them. But the apartments here rarely have playspace for kids, so ask for a villa!

The school fee is ok

Most English private Schools are on that range.

Anyway , both DESS and Parkhouse are on waiting list

Sherborne Qatar is 40 K an year.

The only school that is in the 50K range , is ASD . And it's an American school.

Due to many complains locally, there have been reports that Supreme council of education would step in before the next school year to reduce private schools tuition fees

Khawaga I can get you a job but free speech is banned in Qatar so don't want to break the law. Let's wait for genesis and bleu, they will tell you how to break law without breaking the laww. Yes they are confusing here.

for a senior position you should be asking for more! The benefits are good but you should be aiming for 25k per month salary! especially for British citizen! (paid the most)

I guess the offer is good. you should go for it. house rent is one of major monthly expenditures here and since your company is taking care of it, you should be in comfortable situation.

No 30k will more than cover the school fees at all schools, so you will be okay. I think DESS is one of the highest but its a good school.

By michaeel• 29 May 2010 11:49

Thanks me and you, its actually 30k per child so would that generally be enough or are most schools above that per year per child?

I think its a good offer. Not many places offering all what you have been offered.

30,000 QR will not cover both children so you will have to put some to yourself. My son currently goes to DESS which is one of the best school here but it comes at a price. 26,010 QR per year. The waiting list is VERY long too and will be for most of the good schools here so my advice is get in touch with the schools ASAP!

Our youngest who is 5 has missed out on 1 year at school because there was no space for her so keep in mind you may not be able to get a place just yet.

Hope this helps :-)
