mosti08, my hubby can earn more in the UK too, but the difference is the way of life here. In the UK, he wouldn't see our son during the week, due to a long commute and long working days. You should weigh up your home/work balance and see what's more important to you.

We'd rather have less money in the bank but have quality family life together.

Looking at your package, I would be inclined to ask your employers about school education, that is very pricey here for the British curriculum. Apart from that, I would ask for more basic if you need to send money back to the UK for any commitments you may have there.

Hope this helps!

and in Qatar at Qatar University!

Mosti, just evaluate, how much u could save from UK taxes and at the same time there are several indirect taxes in Qatar like high rents and kids school fees at British curriculum.

Generally, life is more luxurious for Britexpats in Qatar than in UK......

Discuss with some of the Professors at QU to understand more clearly about the package feasibility and their personal experience.

I received a similar offer from qatar university. I do not think it is fake. Why would it be fake? It is not funny, anyway.

Mosti08,

I talked to a guy working at Qatar University as an assistant professor and he said the given benefits are adequate for a family. In fact he told me that most families are just spending a third of that salary and stacking the rest. Then, should you not worry about the amount they have offered.

Another point is being a muslim I feel proximity to the culture but if I were in your shoes I would take a fly to qatar and see the life there and then make the decision since it is an important one affecting you and your family altogether.

Good Luck.

actually i earn more here in england about 10,000 pounds which is about 65,000 riyals but after the taxes and everything.and the price are really high here especially the fuel i have to fill up my nissan maxima for about 100 pounds which is about 600 riyals ,and they dont even give you anything from the benifets that qatar university provides ,so ithink it is a pretty good offer ,but if you say that i should ask for higher i would try

1.What is a university doctor?Did you mean professor as you mentioned in your profile?

2.Even if the university can afford education allowance for your children, a salary of 20 k is not enough for a 39 years old english professor?

Stone cold is right, it

's too less for a doctor. Lot of people here even kabayans are earning more than that ae we they are not doctors. Negotiate more on your basic. Make it double as a start. Be Bless...

By Stone Cold• 20 Jan 2010 09:48
Stone Cold

Thats too small for a doctor, by status even with the full benefits. Negotiate accordingly per current world market pay for such.

I dont see where the problem lies? Your getting a free roof over your head with good benefits plus a 20k salary. Learn to live within your means and you should be fine. Are you getting education allowance for ur kids? if not then that could fall expensive for you. try to get that worked out.

Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)

I never thought it is a fake post.

You are missing the point, people come here for 600 QR per month and survive and save and people come here for 50,000 QR per month and survive and save.

So it all comes down to the way you live your life that's why compare the cost of living indices, a well educated guy like you should be able to figure it out after going through them whether it's worth joining this job or not.

Victory I don't care if he is a genuine case. Even then how should we know what standard of living he enjoys and whether 20,000 or even 200,000 QR is enough for him or not.

All the help I can provide is, Go to GOOGLE.COM, search for the cost of living indices. Compare the ones for Doha with your present location and then decide. That's what I did anyway.

Firstly your age group is 18-25.... i don't think Qatar University Recruitment team are fools to offer this package to a fresher.

Secondly u have mentioned your nationality QATAR.. these many years you have been in qatar and don't know the living expense...

Can you give me a detailed report of your daily expenses. Please include the consumer durables that you intend to buy as well once you reach Qatar. Please let me know what you eat and where you eat, are you Veg or Non-Veg, what brand of soap, shampoo, deodrant, perfume, face cream, hair cream you use. Which brand of clothes and shoes you wear. Along with that please mention your Mobile phone usage, how many minutes per month you talk, how many minutes National and how many minutes International. How many messages you send per month.

How old are your kids, all of them in school? If yes then which standard.

Once you provide all that then maybe just maybe I will be able to tell you if it is enough or not.
