Aussier Offer 45K?

I am an Australian engineer and have an offer of 45K a month (all inclusive) with a government department. I only have a wife no children. I am hoping this is a reasonable package, my main worry is accomodation. At the moment it seems units have gotten cheaper and I can find something comfortable under 10K. But what if prices start skyrocketing again? Do companies ever review their allowances? If my rent doubles in a year my packagage becomes less and less attractive becuase I presume my employer will not increase my package over the 3 year contract. How do people feel, will rents increase again to those high levels?

Yes the annual flights will be good and even looking forward to the buzz of World Cup 2022 building up (sorry Australia). Well I've signed, just got to get through the red tape of permits etc. The land of sand here I come!

Hey mate. I'm an Aussie too hopefully moving to Qatar next year.

I would expect that they would cover free accomodation as part of your contract. Ask them if they can cover this. The job I've applied for covers my accomodation and annual flights home. Either way, considering there won;t be an inflation in housing - that seems like a nice salary.

Good luck with it.

Its all about managing the money. What statistics say about the average income here is not true. A huge % of the population get around 10k or less & still manage everything.

True, it will be a more conservative lifestyle, but accepting any offer & managing your money is how smart you are.

For me I can't dream of a 45k salary any time soon! So my adivise would be to take it up.

Its a good salary. As hislam says , you can pay up to 15 or 17k for an apartment.. 2k-2.5 k a month for car rental and food is extra. you should be able to save a few dollars..

Thanks hislam, OK that makes sense. I imagine World Cup if Qatar win (I hope you do) will drive up demand again and was just imagining rent doubling or something!

I love the attitude of this how we are whether you like it or not!!!!!!!

On a serious note; the 10k in the time being is more than what you need to find a decent accomodation for you with your wife. In the worst case, in 3 yrs time, it can never be more than 15K. However, the companies allover the world raises salaries when they are concerned with the turn-over, not when the employees ask for it.

Correct. Leave the 'headache' to the sponsor. It's his country. Let him cope with it.

Personally I would never accept a job in this part of the world that did not provide accomodation - not an allowance or as part of the salary. It's just too iffy. Prices have come down over the past year but they can skyrocket tomorrow (especially if FIFA chooses Qatar)

If I hike the rent (You may feel it is skyrocketed and definitely you feel bad) but you have to pay me or I will kick you out of my apartment/villa.

If I cut your salary, you feel bad but I feel it is ok.

Normally, we hire people beleiving that, those are stupid and we are smart. Then we hike the rents, cut the pays etc. etc. If you are really not comforatable with these kind of our jokes, why do you want to come here in the first place?

After all our country is one of those "Paradise found" -mind you.
