Average Salary - The Gulf English School

Rossi G
By Rossi G

Hi,

My partner has noticed posts advertised for teachers at The Gulf English School. She is a mathematics teacher, currently working in the UK at Secondary Level and can teach up to Key stage 5 I think.

I was wondering if anyone already works at The Gulf English School and if so, what salary they are earning?
I am already in Doha, is it worth visiting the school for more information?

Also, what type of package do they offer, i.e. does it include:-

Accommodation
Car allowance
Flights Home
Medical care

Many thanks,

Hi does anyone on this forum still work at ges?

I have recently had an interview for a position here, but I've not heard anything back yet... how soon was it that you got an offer or heard back from them? was it instant or did it take more than a few days etc...?

Thanks

Hi apricot

My wife and I have just been offered jobs at GES. Would love your general thoughts on school and living in Qatar, although any experience is what you make of it. We will be teaching in the primary school but don't know year groups.

My wife has taught in Dubai but this will all be new for me.

Thanks

Hi there,

I have just been offered a job at The Gulf English school. I would love to hear from anybody with recent experience of working at the school and what it's like to live there.

Thanks.

there are always positions in secondary school. Don't loose hope. they haven't issues the new contracts yet to the existing teachers, so I guess they aren't sure yet of whose contract is going to be renewed or not.

Anything would be appreciated!

Many thanks,

Not quite sure what you mean by a "living allowance" but if you are given accommodation then that usually covers it. As you can see by the number of applicants, GES doesn't need to negotiate and if you are in your first year of teaching, I wouldn't bother, they won't budge. Don't sell yourself short, if it isn't at least 25% more than you are making now in the UK, don't go.

Hi Chris, I think I was there when you were... The school have made me an offer but I do not know whether it is a good offer or whether I can negotiate for a better one and how to go about this.

Do you have any advice? Does anyone else for that matter please, I have been offered a salary and accommodation and medical etc, but the salary is not what I thought it would be, do they expect you to negotiate? And also, is it usual for you to get a living allowance as well? I would like to work there but I don't want to be selling myself short and getting a really low wage, so if anyone can tell me the averages for a teacher who is at the moment in my first year of teaching - so by september it will be my second and I will be fully qualified with QTS and QTLS status.

Thank you.

Medical card is 100 QR a year, so don't worry too much about that benefit!

okay, way more than me! Complete my second year in July! I have been offered the standard single package which is suitable as I am going alone but i want to clarify location of accomodation etc. Have been through a draft contract and medical insurance is included, how come you dont get that? I'm going to meet them tomorrow...might see you there!

Hi Chris,

Do you mind me asking how many years experience you have teaching? I have been made an offer at the school too & just want an idea on suitable packages!

Thank you!

I have been offered just over 12,000 QR a month. I am a primary (elementary) teacher. I am basically being offered a package that is for a single person and my wife hasn't been taken in to account and other things such as I am leaving a permanent position in the UK, my wife is leaving full time employment etc but I will keep you posted on my progress!

I believe the website is more impressive than the school.

Thanks for the info, what do you teach? What have you been offered per month if you dont mind me asking?

Its dissapointing that its only a one bed flat and no car allowance, everyone needs a car out here really!

I don't work for them but have been made an offer.

No medical insurance, flights only for me, not my wife, one bedroom apartment. No car allowance.

I am heading to London to meet them soon and will let you know if I managed to get an improved offer but as it stands, most schools will pay flights for wives/husbands and include medical insurance and offer more money per month!

Thanks for the information.

Is there anyone out there who works for The Gulf English School?

The website is impressive, the School seems to have good facilities.

I would suggest that if you can get a copy of the contract you should. Please be aware that the Arabic version takes precedent over the English version so it is important you get it translated.

I would try and find out vis this website or other qatar based ones what the school is actually like. I am a teacher here in Qatar but not at the The Gulf English School. I made the mistake of not contacting teachers at the school I am based at, I have paid the price for my folly.
