Is this really happening in other companies?

It's a catch 22 situation.

Most of those suffering are labourers. They can'r resign because they've paid money to come here and in most cases the company will make them pay their airfare. As time goes on the arrears increase and they feel that they can't leave.

Yeah, have anyone do something about this, let say the department of labour, but i think RP is much better coz its the employer who will be penalize, but the salaries, its the workers and employees. And what assistance does government of Qatar can offer.

so, u r telling me that it is better to leave the company? what if the available salary offer is lower by 34% than what i am getting now. I really want to leave the company. But what if a better opportunity comes and i am already with the new company.

MagicDragon, its not just your Qatari friend, but the Indian boss has also not received his salary!!! The last time any1 checked, Al Jazeera is funded by the government, not by the Indian boss!!!

we westerners have options.

many of these people who have not been paid have their passports held by their companies.

When I worked in Jeddah my company told me they had just about run out of money. I left very quickly! I can't figure out anyone who'd stay beyond 1 missed pay day.

Did you Google it first?

not sure if anyone saw Chris Jordan at VCU last week. he is an artist and environmentalist.

www.chrisjordan.com

he wants to do a new piece on modern day slavery as there are more slaves in the world today then at any other time in history. when he said this, i think most of the qatari students did not realize that it happens here too.
