Hi milky, my friend is in MIC at the moment finalising his contract, so I'll know more when he gets back next week.

Do you live in MIC? everyone seems to be in Doha.

My friend seems to think they want to recruit british firefighters, they have already got a number of retired english officers out there organising the new brigade.

thanks for your help again, any advice or knowledge greatly appreciated.

Trevor No I meant every job in the area that you guys are applying is graded. It will be written in your friends contract.

MIC (Mesaieed Industrial City) is currently preparing and installing a number of new fire Brigade stations, independently of the Civil Defence (main fire Brigade)

Trevor, I'm an Operations and Maintenance Manager. I had a fire crew at my last 3 jobs in Saudi, 90% Filipino with a couple of Indians.

Xena, I'm all for getting what you pay for. Right now we have a few Brit construction supervisors. They cost a fair bit but get the job done. I'd rather have on guy working for 5 times the salary than 5 guys not working for 1/5.

MIC may be a different prospect though as they are pretty autonomous, only calling in Civil Defense when it's something they can't handle themselves.

So, getting back to Trevor - you might want to ask about your roles and responsibilities. If you are a leader of some description you could do well.

It would seem Qatar is hiring staff from western countries to take on positions in the local services.

They have recently brought in Paramedics from Aus and SA to work and train the current Medics in updated and emergency techniques. These guys are also working on emergency duties. They are in the new white and yellow emergency SUV's you see driving along the road - you want it to be them that attends an accident scene - they have up to date life saving equipment and know how to use it properly.

There salary's are very good and their accomodation is really awesome... done a number of pet relocations to their compounds in the last few months.

Possibly they are trying to do the same for Civil Defence?

milky, I'm applying for a firefighter position if thats what you mean by grade.

baldrick, thanks for your comments, but I'm a bit confused as a friend has got a job as an officer over there, he's flying out today to finalise his contract, he's told me they're keen to recruit english firefighters ,the pay is good( although he doesn't know how much!) and they pay a good housing allowance.

Are you a firefighter and how did you come by your information?

thanks for your help again

Trevor

As I said previously:

"You'll be competing with Filipinos who will work for a lot less than you! be prepared to lower your expectations or aim higher (Chief etc)"

I'm only guessing here, but I'd say QR5000/month plus shared accommodation and shift rotation for 24 hour cover.

There is no way you are going to get close to what you would get in UK when there is stiff competition from Asians doing the same job, so I say again, aim high.

Ok Trevor, only a firefighter working in Mesaieed may be able to answer that question. But if you give me an indication of the grade for that job I might be able to give a rough idea what you will be looking at.

So what is the grade of the job you are applying for?
