Good salary for my experience
I received an offer from one of the construction companies for 40000 QR including all allowances + free medical insurance. I have 15 years professional engineering experience in US and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from US school. I currently live in US. Is this a good salary to live in Qatar for a family of three (me, wife and a one year old baby)? Can I save some money?
there is nothing much more important this time to be in your own country with good life and salary, than transferring to other country in which you need to understand culture and tradition and the weather itself... as long as you know that you can provide all what you need...as well as family needs then why not just stay...where you are...and be happy of what you have... sure you will not be starving in the US with your job now...
Go ahead it is a good offer as per the current taugh situation. Best of Luck
better ask for 80000. You might starve at 40000.
Go ahead uncle SAM....now a days your lucky to get that salary and benefits.
Apparently ALL allowances are taxable income and as samcro said, the housing and school allowances will make up the tax-free amount allowed, so that everything else will be taxed it seems (and at a fairly high rate in my opinion). Thank God and the Queen for my burgundy passport ;)
ALL Americans are supposed to pay federal taxes, minus exemptions. If you are not working for a US company and they aren't taking it out of payroll, then you are expected to do it yourself. Otherwise the IRS will come knocking.
@jon--absolutely right. No 401ks here unless you are with a US company and arrange it with them. Also, housing & benefits count as part of your taxable income as far as the feds are concerned (thanks George W. Bush for that change to the tax code!), so much of the exemption is eaten up quickly. Also means your not eligible for many of the tax shelters like the Roth IRA, etc.
I you get housing on top of this and it is per month, it's a good offer. Otherwise, you'll save practically nothing. Also make sure school fees are included if you have kids--can be VERY expensive here otherwise.
my frnd ur so lucky.......
ex.ex.expat: Not all Americans have to pay taxes here. It depends on the company and the contract. I agree, though, that on principle, QR40,000 per month is decent if housing and school fees are provided.
33% after that :(
them out of the 40,000. If you have to pay for them out of the 40,000 then I don;t think you will save much. Plus I have heard Americans have to pay taxes even when they work over here.
Housing?
Seems ok if you have housing
its a very very good opportunity...
