Hair Salary

Hi im moving to Qatar in April and I been offered a contract which is 7000 Riyals aprox 1250 to work 48hours as a stylist in a modern salon. I assume this is monthly as I previously told the agency that the lowest offer I would accept was £13,000 Sterling per year. Although I have been told by other expats from another forum that this was pittance that was not worth accepting and then viewed some others which were much lower so I am totally confused.

My flight and accodation etc will be taken care of also.

If anyone can enlighten me then please feel free
Thanks

No problem I remember how I felt before I moved out and although it's good to be realistic people tend to focus on the negatives more than the positives! Yeah of course-i'll show you the great social scene I was talking about :)

alexam have you been to Ireland recently?? Alive and kicking is definitely not how I would describe it...more like freezing cold and everyone struggling with the effects of the recession! As a fellow Irish ex-pat in my 2nd year in Doha (Granted i'm not a hairdresser), I think it'd be well worth the shift just for the experience of living in a completely culturally different environment. Sure there's gonna be things about here that will do your head in (driving for example) but if you're going to be better off than if you stayed at home, go for it. And yes, the cost of living isn't exactly low here but you learn to live within your means...the weather is great, the social life is great, and Qatar is a great base for travelling...hope this helps!

every one have his or her situation to agree or not

i think you have to conseder to take percentage from your work , i mean everyone you make you take 25% for example from it cost.. so they will not make you work as a donky and you can gain money you deserve

all the best...

You assume this is monthly? Oh, honey, don't assume anything in the Gulf! Get everything in writing. Your accomodations will be shared, find out with how many people to a bedroom, and although banks and offices work 8 hours a day, service industry workers usually work 12. If your salon is open, you are there! 7000 QR is a bare minimum for a skilled European worker. Remember you will need an exit permit to leave and if you hate it here you may have to pay for the expenses you incurred to the company to get here and get home.

@Hair1985. You didn't mention the food. If there's no free meal. It will cost you a lot considering you're a European by nationality and the type of foods that you prefer. Most of the commodities here are imported. Aproximately 1500 riyals of 7000 riyals salary will go to food expenses alone. Dining outside is not included. Another is your personal needs expenses. My guess is you can save 4000 riyals or less. Is that fine with you? If not better stay put in Ireland where life is more alive and kicking.

..income versus expenses..if all your daily needs would come from that, previous forums related to cost of living have illistrated that your salary may not be enough..or, you need to consider significantly lowering down your expenses to be able to survive...
