Is it worth it?

Hey dude. From your post history it seems like this may be a little too late. That didn't stop me from registering on this site just so I could respond to your question and maybe help you out. The package seems reasonable, your biggest expense here will be housing, groceries and transportation. Arguably, you could've gotten more but that ship has sailed.

Housing is a particularly tricky one. Although you have it covered, you'll want to make sure that youre not tied to a particular compound and have the ability to move around if you wish and trade in the "provided" accommodation for an allowance. A decent two bedroom place can range anywhere from 12000 - 16000 if you stick to Canadian standards (and trust me, you'll want to).

Groceries will cost you 2000-2500 QAR a month. A reasonable amount to pay for car payments is around 3000 QAR a month which means you've got a loan of about 70,000 QAR. To put it into perspective, a decent vehicle will cost you anything between 90k - 140k depending on the make and model.

To put to rest some of the other BS going on in this thread and generally in the salary/allowance section of this forum, it is definitely not unheard of to be taking home anything from 40-70k a month total (including housing/transportation costs) + extra education allowances for western expats. In my opinion, the quality of life you are compromising coming here from the west (North America especially) warrants that sort of compensation. In my experience a lot of the info on qatarliving is heavily influenced by people from south/east Asia who are unfortunately treated differently when it comes to compensation.

Thanks Dallas. I have no idea, I am being hired by another Government organization and not QF. I have only gone through one reference check which to be honest is still underway... I sy that because I am yet to hear back from them confirming if they have what they need. All the best with everything. It's a pain sorting through stupid comments and ones that are actually valid and add value... majority people just post for the sake of it with really stupid and nonsense gibberish.

Ahmed brother, just read through the comments and take what you need to take. It's an open forum so you would expect noise. BTW, I am in the process of accepting an offer from QF. I heard there will be another reference check process after the offer acceptance. Do you have any idea what that involves and how long it takes? I was hoping i could prepare some docs/info in advance to help speed up the process.

I undertand everyone has said I should ask for more and some numbers thrown out were 50K even. My question, is anyone on this forum even making that much as real take home income? or are these numbers just thrown out based on "what I think a westener is making". I have connected with several westeners in the region who are claimed to make 50-60 K a month but the feedback has been it is very rare and those numbers are for very senior execs or include housing allowance etc in it.

I am not challenging anyone but just throwing it out there based on whst I have observed. How many people here are really making over 25 as the final take home salary with annual return ticketd and all other benefits not included in this figure? Lets ask the question before we advise others.

Again, I agree it is not an amazing package but I believe a decent one. Everyone wants more, but we hardly get what we want. :)

I would not consider Qatar close to your home in Canada or do you only use the passport for selfish gain?

Don't forget you are still likely to be liable to Canadian tax while working here.

@zackm: he worked in Canada for 10years... one of my brother is getting 39K he has less than 10 years of experience he don't have masters degree and he don't have Canadian passport....

Sounds like a good offer, basically you will take home 18K per month take home, without tax and everything is almost covered in terms of cost. What's stopping you? If you can save, you should take it.
