Hi All,

I have been recently offered a job in doha.

I am a Chartered Accountant with 13 years of work ex and 10 years of post qualification.

I have worked with companies like Citigroup, Barclays, HSBC.

I have been offered a package of 40 k pm in doha. Along with this medical and airfare once a year for family.

I was wondering if this is a right package to move on there considering my qualification and experience.

Thanks
Vishal

Better to stay where you are if you had a good life, try to find in any country and you wil not be offered at that same package.

compare it with your current salary, current savings, current expenses & current lifestyle if you feel that moving to qatar is good then go ahead.. and if you are in india right now i believe your life style is going to change here for example if there you are living in a flat in qatar you will be in villa offcourse.

Hello Vishal,

All things being equal like job title, your career progress growth/plan,the potential risk of you underselling yourself, job security, your long term plans etc. I think the offer of Qr.40,000/- plus routine benefits, is not bad.

With a decent lifestyle, you should be able to save good money (Aim atleast 50%), as I read in one of the comments and is for most employees - money is important.

One final comment - check minor but important details like (1) Can you leave and work for some other company in Qatar (2) Anti-competition clause extends to other GCC states etc....

Let me know if you require anything else ....

Regards,

Ghanshyam Vyas

Hello Vishal,

Rather than looking at the absolute amount of your salary, please make sure that it compensates your skill set in Qatar. The experience mentioned above - Is it in India or some other knowledge based ecenomines like UK, Singapore, US. As a professional, it is also important the current designation and what has been offered to you.

There are chances that you may find people with less/same skills get more than what you have been offered.

What is your area of expertise like audit, tax, advisory, M&A, investment banking etc...

One expense head missing is schooling ... Indian schools will cost around 1,000/- per month ..

Feel free to ask more,

Shyam

To be honest with you, what was offered to you is higher, so much higher.

So take it,

The one advise I'll give you is to check if your employer is a GOOD company;

IMO it's not only money but the organization which matters most; if they're professional, reputed ones, Go ahead, else take advise!

Other things...restriction on movement to and from the country, living with a countinuous feeling of no respect just cos of being an Indian and the possibility of being insulted at every turn if you dont play diplomatic or brush the insult under the glitter of the money. One day being a single Indian can have its own list of insults.

Vishal,

i think your over doing and worry your self too much !

Qatar may not be one of the best places in the world to be ... But look at your present situation and then judge your move ....

I make 40 k a month

spend 6 k on ff accom

food 1k

nissan patrol 4k

i send home almost 30k per month ...

So dont judge your self with your qualification coz honestly your just fooling your self .

Qatar is a great country ... look at your situation rather than your qualification or else it will get you nowhere ...

thanks

damien

Hi,

Money is the biggest factor here.

You mentioned some serious things to consider. What are we talking about here.

Is money the ONLY consideration for your move?? There can be some other and rather (serious) things to consider if it is not only money or other things also equally matter in addition to money.

As for the money, you would be fine.

tazz, do you think a person coming with that salary is going to rent a car for ever? Come on man. @op. Your calculation is not bad at all.

@op, it is a good offer. Expenditure and savings are according to your life style.

its really a great offer.

if you are comfortable to stay in Flat you will spend less than 10k., its like maximum of 8000 for fully furnished 2 bedroom in madinath khlifa or markhiya area which is closed to westbay as well.

Rent in westbay is really high 12000 and up.

Depends on the standard you are looking, it is hard to find 1 bed furnished for 10k. More like 12-13 in west bay.

Food 1000? Probably depends where you buy but I would do it x2 or x3.

Car 2k? If you rent a lancer for 1700 then yes ok. Anything better and 2.5k is minimum.

It all depends on the lifestyle. If you will be going out to pubs and restaurants you will be spending loads. If you will stay at home than obviously you will save more.

Phone is another expense, if you use it wisely you can perhaps get away with QR200.

Yes - you are indeed an accounts guy. Take the offer and spend it as you like. Savings is upto you, can be more or nothing.

I would say yes, some people with that experience not working for the big companies are lucky to get 15k a month

Thank you very much for your reply.

But do you tink that's the right offer for someone with this sort of experience? Or people with similar qualification and experience get more there?

I want to come to doha but at the right price.

I don't to have the feeling once I get there that people with similar experience getting more.
