JOB Offer from a QATARI Company - PLS HELP DECIDE MY FUTURE

ZIG
By ZIG

I received a job offer from a company in Qatar and they offered me 3700 riyals with free housing plus transpo/food allowance. I am single so I was thinking that even if the salary is quite low i will still be able to live decently over there...is this assumption correct?

More than the salary i guess, I was thinking of the career opportunities that may come upon me if and when i decide to accept the offer.
need your precious advise as this decison will change the course of my life, pressure that is!

thanks! although accommodation, food, and transpo is free, 3700QR is still quite low indeed. hmmmm, this oppotunity to work abroad is something that does not come often and i am afraid that by passing this up...i will be missing a lot...i'll never know what's on theother side of the bridge if i don't cross it right? well, i am young...if i did not like it there, i can always go back and start anew.

ZIG,

You cannot live decently and save money with 3700 QR per month even if you are single.Life, accomodation are very expensive in Doha.

To give you an idea, the rent for 1 correct bedroom fully furnished is around 5000 QR/Month.

I suggest you to discuss frankly by phone with one the phillipinos who is using this forum, you will ask him all the questions.

Good luck and take care

Firstly, you did not mentioned what position you are hired for, this prevents anyone from gauging your offered salary.

Regardless of the above, to live decently with that amount should be fine taking into account the accomodation, transport and meal is provided.

BUT if how much to save is taken into the equation, you won't be saving decently. I don't see any pupose in going abroad if you cannot save decently.

It's your call anyway, but sort out your objectives and priorities before deciding.

have read various comments here in this forum and i am quite confused why others would say that 3700 riyals is too low while others would say that it is enough...what will be my point of reference then so i'll know if 3700 riyals is really low or just enough?

I have a job opportunity in Doha as a manager of irrigation division in one of the largest company in Qatar and they ask me to determine the amount of the basic salary I would like to take, and in addition to the basic salary they will give me (a housing, air ticket once a year, car, medical insurance, phone allowance) so any body can help me in determine the basic salary cause I don’t have any idea about that

Actually I read in the Gulf times yesterday there will be new rules for Phillipinos coming into Doha anyway.

Seems that they will only send you the offer, when I started in my job they asked me to sign the offer to first this was to put the paper work into process only after that did

I get the contract to sign.

ainari, how do you know how much is the food allowance and housing allowance? do you happen to be working for DUNES trading. and another question, is housing allowance different from accomodation allowance, or can they exist at the same time (accommodation is provided plus housing allowance)?

thanks!

food allowance-QR 200.00, housing allowance QR 600 to 1,000.00. maybe they will provide you with an accommodation but sharing. check with them first.the offer was not bad for a starter.

I am not familiar with labour contracts here but I can get someone to look at it for you.

I used to employ labourers in Dubai but I am sure the concept is the same.

thanks canarybird! I am just waiting for the copy of the contract and once i have it i will consult everyone i know from there. I will also make sure that you read the copy of my contract, haha, if that's okay with you...thanks!

Please check out every detail in the contract because as said above you could end up sharing a small room and for that matter a bed too as many labourers are doing now. Transportation usually means a company bus enduring long travelling times in Doha depending on where you are working.

Get a job description (if they have sych a thing)of what you will be doing and ask someone to check out the contract for you.

This will prevent a great deal of distress in the end.

The Phillipinos have a very strong community here so you will be able to ask them questions on how to live well.

Ask your employer for the details of accomodation. You could end up in a small room and will have to share it with 20 others. AC wont work and the toilet queue will be long enough to make you crap in your pants. Food allowance??? Never heard of it. Confirm. As far as transportation is concerned... well thats alright, they will probably send a van to pick u up from your accomodation and then drop you back at the end of the day only on week days. As far as Taxis are concerned they are a rarity around here, you gotta book one on the phone and the waiting time could be between 2 to 24 hours. Dont believe me??? well the taxi booking no. is +974 458 8888. Give it a shot and try it out. Do your research before you coem here. Ask your employer to send you a contract before you arrive coz once u r here u r stuck.

Rest is up to you,

Cheers.

Thanks everyone for your comments, will seriously take into consideration all of these before I make my decison in a week.

Like if I just spend on the usual things and does not really splurge, will I be able to save half of my salary (since food, traspo, and housing free)? And another question, when they say food allowance, how does it go? In form of cash monthly? reimibursibles? daily allowance?

thanks guys!

for us Filipinos 3700 is quite fine because we are not used to have an expensive lifestyle. We can stretch the last bill that we still have...but if you are a big spender or a one-day millionaire it will not be enough.
