Need help on cost of living in Qatar

Hi All,

I am hoping that someone could give me a good advice. I have been offered a job position in Doha with a full package around 18k, this includes health care & travel for family with no car or accommodation. However, I have got no clue at all of the living costs in Qatar compared with UK and am not sure if this would be sufficient enough. Also, not sure of how much my child's education will cost. Should I ask for more money?

Can anybody help and advice?

Many Thanks

nijel...lol...generally on QL a westerners starting salary (as advised) is nowhere less than QR75000/- pm....:)

But to say that salary does not depend on nationality is also not true....whether some of them deserve it or not, whether times are ripe or not to ask for that kind of salary, is another story.

I really cannot understand how people can go on advising someone to ask for more salary when they do not even have a clue about the job position being offered. The salary depends not on nationality but on the job position. I had a lady secretary(single) in my company who was a original UK citizen getting only QR.5500 but she was surviving too.

These days due to the worldwide economic recession, there are too many people available for a job so dont push too much for a very high salary.

Personally I would not consider a package that didn't include accomodation provided, a transportation allowance, tickets home for the family annually, private medical, education allowance for each child.

18K isn't going to go far (it might cover the above) but you won't save much.

To get a proper response it would be better to spell out what is the job that is offered (generic), how many yrs exp. you bring in, type of industry and any other info related to the job which may help to respond.

and also, usually for family packages, there is a limit per household. some companies set their limit to 500Qr only. this is not acceptable. medical expenses here is rather on the high side.

apple to make things easier on you , put the main issues you want to know the range of and we will help you ..

for example the house , you need an apartment or a villa , you want with facilities or not etc .. all this can give you a clear idea about the range of prices and style of life .

and 18 K if its the full package for a civil engineer thats very low , ask at least for a basic salary 18 and they should provide you house , car, and tuition for the kids . or else you will be spending what are you making here.

Hi

A full package for family without a car and accommodation? this is not full family package. you better think twice. nevertheless, here it goes,... apartments monthly rental currently between 5000Qr to 8000Qr and this is usually within 15km radius from Doha. car rental from 2000Qr/month (a simple family car saloon, e.g. Mit Lancer), International school (british curriculum) from 3000Qr/month/child, monthly household expenses...maybe 1500Qr for family of 4 on groceries (very subjective) at Carrefour. now do the math, avg about 10K or 12K per month. Now is all up to you, to accept the 18k salary package or not. my advice is, ask for more if your post is en engineer or high level manager. good luck my fren.

Hi, hard to tell without knowing more...give a try...

compound rent medium 15 000-20 000 /month

western school around 45 000-80 000/year/kid

Then daily cost on top, if you have kids and want to live amongst other UK ppl (if you are UK) it will be tricky.

1. Average 2BHK accommodation around 5000-6000.

2. If you buy your own car, then fuel is cheaper than water here, dont worry about that.

3. Child education depends on school, but approx 3000 in a good school

If you are UK National, sure you have to ask for more money, as your package should be more than that. 18K looks very less for UK National.
