Hello, I'm a Canadian citizen and i have been offered a role of Project Manager in one of the financial institutions in Doha. I have 10 years of experience and the salary offered to me is 34,000 riyal per month as total package excluding bonus. Is this a good salary for a single guy with no ME experience? Any advise is appreciated

Thanks for all the comments. I am actually looking forward to embrace the culture of Qatar and making the most out of my stay. Its going to be a challenge as i dont know anyone there but will give it a good go to put myself out there

Another piece of advice: Do come here, make money, build up your savings, live a happy life BUT don't turn around and abuse Qatar or its people as they differ entirely from your culture and traditions, rule and regulations, morals and morality. I am saying this as this is what many from the west do.

A recent example was when westerner recently posted a comment at Qatar Living terming Qatar as among the most polluted countries in the world. The comment was far from the truth and at best a remark from the hip.. But then I overlook it as some people post comments when they are still not sober after the drinks they have had.

Since you have no ME experience I advise you to make sure that your contract is verified and registered with the Ministry of Labor. This is the only way to ensure you are paid and the only way to claim your salary if it should not be paid. One more advise: don't trust anybody in the ME!

Thanks. Thats very helpful. I will be staying close to my work and hope i'll be paying less than that. Looking forward to it as i wanted to live in the Middle East

It depends on far your office lies from the place of your residence. However, I would assume you may be paying around QR 1500 per month total for taxi service both ways. As for the grocery expenses, this was included in my calculation when I stated the expenses you may be bearing during your stay here. You may get to spend QR 500 per month on your grocery.

Thank you. I dont drive and i will be using a taxi to get to work everyday. How much do you think that would add to my expenses? Any idea of grocery expenses as well?

It is indeed a very good salary and if bonus comes in, you will be going over the moon.

As a person who is single, I guess your total expenses for each month will be around QR 9000 per month if you decide to live on a single-occupancy basis. However, should you decide to share your accommodation or someone shares his accommodation with you, your expenses will go down by say QR 2000.

At the end of the month, your expenses depend solely on your life-style. If you drink or visit bars or socialize much, the expenses will surely add up.
