Good Day to all,

I got Contacted by a company that is currenly working on the new metro project.I was offered 24000 QAR including living , transport and flight expenses. They also offer insurance and 21 working days annual leave as well as end of service gratuity.

I am Mechanical engineer with 4.5 years of experience and a Canadian citizen.

Please advice if its a good salary for Canadian nationals or if i should negotiate for more.

Thank you

Lilianna, thank you for your advice I know there are some badly mannered people but there are good ones as well ... I will try the other website ...

This isn't a page where you can help or get you enquiries/ questions answered. There are a loads of hypocrites, badly mannered people here. If I was you I'll take my business somewhere else. Try international.con, there are some decent users there where they won't see you as a threat

newexpactqatar, either you are western or not, it is the same (art. 74-75 of Law No (14) of the Year 2004 – Qatar Labor Law). However, from what I know, overtime payment are not applied for people at managerial level, who are not supposed to sign in and out.

about your friend with 2.5 years experience, usually in Qatar the minimum requirement for such works is 3y+. To me it sounds fair, maybe it can be improved...but at the end of the day the difference is also done by the works you were involved and the like...each CV has a different weight in my opinion (and each person professionally, as well).

Thank you marcolex for the detailed answer ....

I also have a friend with 2.5 years of experience he also got offered 24000 QAR as a mechanical engineer .... Is that ok for his amount of experience ?

look...considering that 4 years experience don't really make you a senior engineer yet, and I assume you are not chartered nor have master degree, as mechanical engineer i think that you shall have something between 28,5K and 36k. And remember that contract shall clearly state that overtime will be paid as per Qatari Labor Law (look for it in internet, overtime will be paid 25% and 50% more), since it is very likely that you WILL to work overtime ;)

Marcolex,

They offer private insurance, the leave is 21 working days, which means a month including weekends. How much do you think i should ask for ?

not enough for the nationality, unfortunately, Qatar salaries depends only on the nationality not on experience!

you better ask for +32K .

good luck

People from those so called countries think it is their privilege and something for granted which would come automatically regardless of their skills, qualifications, experiences etc. In other words they are selling their passports or nationalities whatever you called it.

I think it is time for people from other parts of the world to raise their voice and concern regards this issue. We hear so many theories about human rights, in-discrimination, working rights etc from those civilized countries, however when it serves their own purpose they just can't see it. We should ponder, shouldn't we?

ukhrm is right, nationality is what being paid with high salary here in Qatar, regardless of experiences...

for a canadian passport holder, the offer is very cheap... tell me which metro line & from that i will know which contractor is involved & can advise you salary rate...

people are paid according to their nationality rather than their skills, education & experience...as i have observed in my 35 years living experience in Qatar.

not enough. Clarify if medical insurance is intended as private insurance or public assistance system.

end of service gratuity shall be minimum 3 weeks of your last salary per year of employment, but this is the minimum. 21 days off is still the minimum. living costs are raising also.
