Salary Expectations

Dear All,

I have been asked by my employer to put a price to my transfer to Qatar, something I'm not all that keen on as I live a good fulfilling life in western europe at present.

They will pay for accomodation and travel to and fro, so i'd like to run the conditions and allowances by you and get some feedback from expats currently living there as I am a bit in the dark in this sense. Here goeth..

Accomodation allowance - I will ask for 10,000 Rials/month for a furnished 2 bedroom flat. sound ok?

Car Allowance - car provided by the project (inc. petrol)

Salary - I would not go if I was not able to save a decent amount every month. I was thinking of asking for 22,000 Rials (this is 4,000 Euro at a 5,4 exchange rate. With dining out about 4 times a week and some decent batchelor living, can someone tell me how much of the 22,000 I could be expectigng to save monthly?

Thanks a lot for your responses, I am trying to determine my starting off point in this negotiation!!

market dynamics? law of supply and demand????

That would be true in a normally functioning open capital economy....not in Qatar. In Qatar and most of the middle east all laws of economics cease to function because there are too many rich people playing around with the system....not that simple!!

sorry to burst your bubble....tee hee

No bad for a bachelor....consider looking for an expat to share accommodation in Beverly hills etc which will cost you about 8-9K month....after that you've got basic expenses which shouldn't amount to over 5K.....if you really want to save the whole lot i.e. 22K...go for a shared accommodation in a villa/apartment (check out classifieds..tons of ppl looking for roommates) and the remaining 3K might be a tight (depending on your lifestyle) but OK to cover your basic monthly expenses....22K savings straight up. Good luck.

Try and get the housing allowance paid in cash then you can share a villa with some like minded people and save another 5k

i think 22,000 is damn good amount for a bachelor to earn. It all depends upon the life u live.. if u would like to live a decent life with all amenities u will be spenting around 5000 min a month (only from your salary excluding your housing and stuff).. in this case u can save around 15,000.

This is because your company is giving u a car+petrol, housing allowance.

The other expenses will be for food, shopping, fun stuff, entertainments etc....

Here people who earn 5000 and people who earn 10,000 or more enjoy in the same level with the amount they earn.
