Salary expectations in banking in Qatar

I have recently been made a verbal offer in relation to a job in investment banking in a local bank.

I've discussed salary, albeit only briefly with my employer and was keen to get a sense of whether a life in qatar and the trade offs that accompany are reasonable.

I'm 21 and currently reside in Australia and since graduating in 2006, have one year's worth of experience in a big 4 accounting practice.

My understanding is basic salary including accommodation allowance, transport etc is circa 23,000 to 25,000 per month. There is a bonus component which is determined by performance.

Is this what i should be expecting or should i be pitching for a higher amount? I'm keen to save and hence need to know if the above provides a reasonable platform for such.

I think okarim262 is being paid that high taking into account age and experience because of his nationality. And i have to say it's worth it to be paid highly taken into consideration the good life he will be leaving behind way back home.Welcome to Qatar.

I really wish you got it in QAR currency. You know. As I know, the basic payroll they offered to a one-year experienced accountant is really unbelievable.

I have 9 years experience while I am not expecting that much. But, I really wish you got it in real.

Cheers.

In my personal opinion you are vastly overpaid for the amount of experience you are bringing and I think you are expecting to much.

To find out about the finacial situation in Qatar you can check the internet - Qatar is very advanced as far as money is concerned. lol

dont worry about people saying you are being overpaid. They just jealous :D You dont owe it to anyone for your job offer.

i dont believe i'm being overpaid given how expensive rent and single living can be. the basic is only a 20% premium to what i'm earning here in Aus on a pre-tax basis.

I have yet to receive anything in writing, contract should be coming in next week. i've been told that remuneration should be around that mark.i'll read very carefully.

That said, thank you all for your above feedback, much appreciated.

On a general note, does anyone know how developed the investment banking/corporate finance industry is? its perception? and what its experience is worth on a global level?

You can have a multiple exit permit. I have one. Its not a big deal to get one. Just ask your sponsor.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Well, I think its good salary for 1 years experience, because so far I know, more experienced persons are getting less paid also ..... Even I am a Banker working in Qatar .... and i get less than what you are offered ... cheers bro ... go for it .... later switch off to other bank after gaining few years of more experience ...
