Salary for a german civil engineer
By MidoWeimar •
Hi,
I am a German civil engineer with PhD and 4 years experience in the field of geotechnics, married with a kid. I got an offer to work for a consultancy company for 33k QR. Nothing else is included. do you think it is enough to live ok and save something on the side. Is it what I should expect or are they taking me down?
I appreciate any advice!
Thank you all so much, I appreciate you help!
33k is definitely a very good salary but think of it as a junior salary. If you had 10 years of experience you should be looking at 50k+. It also depends on your title. If you are going to work a junior civil engineer then do not expect them to give you a salary of a director. Your salary will match your title and job description and it is not because you are German or have a PHD that the company will change its hiring policies and grades to please you.
Ha, ha, ha, indeed.
According to the latest "logic" if you don't speak German, you are STUPID! Ha! Ha! What a way cover up an act of pure racism!
If you don't speak German then learn it. There is no excuse for being stupid.
Deleerious: Oh Youngling. How do you think they managed to invade Poland :O(
I'm not German.
I didn't realise the forum was meant to be English only. My apologies. I didn't see the problem with a guy responding to him in his own language.
I'll get back in my box.
If the person posting the question cannot understand simple English, he should not come here as most people here don't speak German. What was the need to write a reply in a language which hardly any QLer understands? Then "Ich bin ein Berliner" -- famous words of President John F. Kennedy from his speech of 1963! Good to know you are German. Germans are great people!
This type of question always subjective. I know many Brits here earning similar with small families.
Taking the example above..
Min 10k for a decent place including bills
Car hire? 2 - 3k a month
School fees ? let's say 6k a month max ..
Other costs - 6k
Total: 25K
Rest is savings...
You must decide wht amount you want to save.. What you think you are worth and then take it from there..
What? No, he's helping the man out in German, in his native tongue. It's hard enough to explain the pitfalls of living here in someone's second language. He's just helping him out. There's nothing written there which is meant to exclude anyone.
Don't be so sensitive!
Ich bin ein Berliner
I thought Qatar Living was an English site but now someone has taken the support of a foreign language to convey his thoughts which cannot be understood by most QLers. Why? Does he want to convey something to possibly his countryman which he does not want others to benefit from? Is this not a form of racism?

Yep! For a white man even 50K would be low whether he knows his job or not. People from the east withe three times more hands-on Middle East experience than you and equally well-qualified, would be drawing around just 25K at the same position here.
45k would be a reasonable salary for a Dr. Ing .
Hope its depend on your life style ..
If you can manage with 2 bedroom decent place for accommodation - around 8k/ month
renting car - 2-3K/Month
If kid school and its additional expenses 5 k/ month
Allow your additional expenses 5 K/ Month
hope with your salary you can manage nicely and save some money too...
Things you need to consider from your 33k (QR!) ... this will not be enough.
Min 10k for a decent place including bills
Car hire? 2 - 3k a month
School fees (huge!)
General living costs
Saving?
Health care?
It may be that a lot of this is included outside of your 33K once you strip the above out won't be a lot. What have they said about you getting family residency status etc? Will they sort out your school? Schools here can be seriously big money.
My view this won't be enough. You could live on it, but I don't think very well.
