Salary mistery ....
Guys, I wonder if any of u has had my same problem ..... I have joined this comany a little over one month ago and expecting my salary the end of May . Today I asked HR when exactly the payday is and they told me there is no fixed day . When i asked to explain it to me like i am a 3 year old, she said salary payment depends on the cash availability of the company ..... she said if there is not enough cash available, salaries will be delaied .
I told her my savings r running out and my rent has to be paid the 1st of the month and not when the company cash is available . So i told her, how do i pay for the rent if my salary and housing allowance don't come by this thursday ? She looked at me as if she saw some kind of alien and said ''i don't know'' .... then she said every work in qatar is paid like this , i said thats not true, all the few people i know here, are paid regularly the end of each month . then she said if i have a special request to put it in writing, u damn right i will, i told her . Then she said these r the normal company procedures, and i told her i don't care if its the normal company procedure, i was never shown any paper that said so, as i was just told the salaries are paid at the end of the month, now they say if enough money is available .... IAM CONFUSED ???? Anyone else in my situation ?
My boyfriend is always in misery over this. You would NEVER see a North American company ever get away with such nonsense!!!! It's illegal and if I understand correctly, against Islamic beliefs as well. This is what I've found so far:
From the Qatar Labor Law: Part Six Article (66)
The wages and other sums to which the worker is entitled shall be paid in the Qatari currency.
The wages of the workers employed on an annual or monthly wages shall be paid at least once in every month.
The wages of all other workers shall be paid once at least every two weeks.
The wages shall be paid to the worker himself within the working day’ and during working hours in the usual place of work or any other place to be approved by the Department and may be transferred to the account of the worker with the bank to be agreed upon by the two parties or paid to the attorney appointed by the worker in writing.
The employer shall not be releaved from his obligation to pay the wage due to the worker unless he has actually transferred it to the bank or the worker or his attorney has signed in acknowledgement of the receipt thereof in the register or receipt prepared for this purpose provided that the said documents shall include the details of the wage.
Islam: Islamic law takes a very strict approach to payment for services. The
Prophet is reported to have said that the worker should be given his wages
before "his sweat dries. 97 This suggests that payment should be made as
soon as possible and not postponed. This notion is reinforced by the
second ruler of the Muslim polity after the death of Muhammad: Umar bin
Khattab.98 Umar seems to suggest a preference for paying wage laborers
daily.99 In addition, in the case of non-payment for services rendered, the
person defaulting on their obligation is severely referred to as one of the
three types of people who will be an "enemy of God" on the Day of
Judgment.'00 Furthermore, with regard to the amount of "real wages" in a
Muslim society, Islamic juristic discourses suggest that it should be "at
least at a level that would enable employees to fulfill all their and their
families' essential needs in a humane manner. ' '
So how do they get away with this? Why do employers put their workers through this stress every single month. He never knows if he can pay his rent, eat a decent meal etc....it isn't right or fair. And the people of Qatar don't care.
the company
I never complain , the accountant desk is full already...
there are many companies in the same situation. Very few companies maintain fiscal discipline when it comes to paying salaries on time.
Your best bet would be to have a backup in terms of personal loan from the bank. You could also see when the company has money and ask for a salary advance. Keep this salary advance as an emergency fund. Request for the salary advance to get deducted over a period of 3-6 months so that you wont feel the pinch.
Good luck.
Very bad on the employer's part.
If possible look forward to change your company.
My good wishes for you !
Finally heard someone who knows how to question crooked company rulings. Now do it in writing and let them answer you in writing. Hold on to this letter because if you will be penalized or questioned by authorities, show them that.
Many companies have this problem..I have few friends..they are all afraid of their home rent every month as they have given monthly cheques..
They should always one month salary in advance just not get a bad image in public as from home rents to bank loans everyone knows that so and so company dont give salaries on time.
