Dear All

I am new to this forum and would appreciate if you could share any information about salaries in Universities. I am thinking of moving to Qatar but so far have no idea about salary scales. Any information would be very much appreciated.

eight thousand plus allowances isn't *that* bad. English teachers at QU were getting that until 2 years ago and apart from housing (provided) the cost of living hasn't gone up very much. How much is that transport allowance? And note the schooling allowance. If the transport allowance covers a car, and the accomodation is OK, then you can make your own calculations, but you won't be getting much less than many teachers here, and more than some.

By and large, QU pays the job, not the nationality. Faculty is very multinational and they're all on the same salary scale.

QR 8,350 per month...this doesn't sound like a good salary offer for a civil engineer -- it is US$2,288 per month or US$27,456 per year.

I think it has more to do with where your from rather than what your qualified to do.

I'm not sure of the exact nature of your job, but 8000+ sounds pretty good to me.

I am assuming this is not a faculty member position. Is it a position for a technical/technolgest in a lab. If that is the case, then I think you should get more than 8350 QR. What is your position? This is not aprofessor position, is it?

In anycase your should always ask for an increase of at least 10% of whatever you are offerd.

With your experience, i would suggest you apply to oil/gas companies or major EPC contractors in the oil/gas industry. You will find that their salaries are higher. Saying that, job titles mean quite alot here. It would be wise to ask QU to see the job description of the post so you can make sure its not a junior position.

That would be a very low salary for a QU faculty member, I think.
