Senior Financial Analyst Grade LEVEL 07 - Package received enough?

Hi all,

I am a french citizen with approx 5 years experience as financial analyst.

I think that this forum is very interesting and people seems to help each other which is good. I have created an account as maybe I will join Qatar soon, and it would be great to share some information with people allready onboard, and maybe making some friends later on.

My issue today is that I have passed some interviews with a big company of Qatar. And furtunately I have been accepted. I have been proposed a job offer as senior financial analyst with the below package :

Basic Salary QAR 12500

Housing Allowance QAR 6000 (or company accommodation offered)

Transport Allowance QAR 1000

Utilities QAR 300

Total Package: QAR 19,800

My question is : is it a fare package for a financial analyst with 5 years experience. If you think it's not fare or can be better, what can I expect to get : more allowances or more basic salary? I think not only finance workers can give their feedback, but all the workers with either engineer or commerce background with 5 to 10 years experience, but also other who knows the average salary for my kind of profile...

I will be please to share with you additionnal information later if needed.

Thank you very much in advance for you help.

Cheers

Hi Yacine,

Thanks for your quick reply.

Yacine I have read the salary survey from Hays, you can find it at this link, it's very interesting : http://www.hays.ae/SER2015/index.htm

It's clearly mentionned that the salary range for :

- junior analyst is 15 000 to 24 000 QAR

- senior analyst is 20 000 to 33 000 QAR

Also I have used the SalaryExplorer.COM : and the average salary for Financial analyst in Qatar is 20667QAR.

I know it's just survey and it's wide as it takes all GCC countries. But well, it gives an idea. I don't know if those figures are including the allowances for housing and benefits.

But supposing that it includes the full package it means that I should be around 24000 to 27000QAR at least because I am not so Senior, but not really a Junior as well. And also I am coming from western company where my salary was higher + cost of living is cheaper in France (+ I was in China for 2 years before so even cheaper than France).

To conclude you said that I can ask for 16 000QAR + Allowances, so totally it gives 23/24KQAR depending what they accept in the allowances. I think is not a ridiculous counter offer, and it seems fare for local market conditions right?

16000KQAR will be enought to live (not survive!) and save some money?

But by reading the housing rental fees in Doha... I guess that with 6000QAR you can't get a good house (maybe a 1 bedroom???). Have you read about QR accommodation offer? Accommodation services are good enough and well located?

And the total car costs is around 3K/4KQAR per month, isn't it? With 1000QAR you don't go too far right? I can push until 2 or 3KQAR maybe, that's all...

Bear in mind that your request of 36k is not reasonable at all. Someone with 5 years experience should not normally apply for a senior business analyst position in the first place, and should only look at "business analyst" and below. Your line manager at QA will probably be getting less than 36k.

Ok now things are clearer, and different. First you are jobless so there is no point asking for too much. Ask to review the base salary in a diplomatic way, but do not tell them what you want exactly in details as you have just mentioned. Second, there are no bonuses in Qatar Airways, and if there are these are not mentioned in the contract. The CEO decides on the time and amount of bonus if ever there is one. Third, you have with QA few free tickets every year (usually we all get only one), and that is not actually bad seeing the ridiculous prices of QA. So my recommendation is to ask for a higher base salary (for example 16k) and take the accommodation of the company (QA has good accommodation for staff). If they reject your request go ahead and accept the offer.

And also the HR Manager didn't mention any bonus in the offer : does it mean that there are no bonuses in Qatar or it means that in Qatar bonus are not contractual, and it's only at the entire discretion of the manager at the ne dof the year... I also hear that there is no 13th month, that's maybe only a european corporate culture.

Do you recommend to included a bonus article in the offer that says the bonus of 1 to 2 months should be granted if objectives are achieved? For me it seems fare, but what are the local labor contract habits?

Thanks again for your super helpful comment!

Hi all thanks all of you for your comments. It's really interesting. The company is Qatar Airways actually... So I suppose it's pretty much like a government organization.

Currently I am jobless, but I have other interviews and probably soon, I hope, some other offers, which will maybe help me in the negotiation. But I don't know if they are open to negotiate freely in Qatar Airways... I know that in private company everything it's a common attitude to negotiate, but maybe not at QR.

I know that I can't get a total package of 70000QAR, but I am guessing to propose that counter offer, what do you think?

Base salary 20000 QAR

Housing 12000 QAR

Tranporation 4000QAR

Utilities 300QAR

So total package of 36 000QAR... Is it fare enough, good, or too high requirements?

Just to clarify something, your salary is very decent for a single person, and you will be able to live comfortably with it. Also, negotiation with the government is always a waste of time as these salaries are fixed by law, but there is a margin and you can play on it. Eventually, if your salary and job are good in France there is no reason to come here, at least not for now. Wait until you have more experience and apply for head and director positions.

And, what is most important: will you be happy here? Latest surveys have shown that dissatisfaction with a job can cause heart attacks, diabetes, and other modern civilization diseases.

You can also ask for QR 70,000. The question is if you can persuade them to pay that much.

Since you are a westerner, you could probably bump up the salary to 25K. However, as some members suggestion of a pay of 35K is a bit far fetched.

The salary offered to you is PEANUTS and accepting it is a BIG mistake. At least you should be getting a monthly gross package of QR 35,000. Cheers

Hi,

I also feel the same with what Yacine.h says. If you are doing already with a good package in France continue with it till you find a better option. As he said if you are jobless it would be ok.

Hi Sickfrid,

From what you say I understand that the company you are planning to join is a government institution. Usually, that's what they pay for someone with 5 years experience. But you can ask for more. A senior analyst can get somewhere between 12500 and 16000 as a basic salary. Transportation is usually 2000 rather than 1000.

Since life is very expensive here compared to France, I'd recommend you negotiate a total package of 25 or 27. They might not be flexible, in which case I'd say, if you have a job in France paying you a good salary by French standards, then stick to it until you get a better offer. But if you are jobless, come.

Just for you to know, I work in the private and a senior financial analyst would get at least 30k total package.

For a French, the salary looks less.

Alasal, it's a qatari company.

Accha, I am from a western country. So far I plan to come alone, but maybe later my girlfriend will join me. The basic salary in Euros is around 3K€, excluding housing allowances. From a France point of view it's a "medium to good" salary. But because there is no social security like in european country, I am thinking that normally it should be higher that this in Qatar...

It is always advisable here to use accommodation provided by the company. It saves you from much headache of getting one on rent. As for the package, if you plan on staying here on single status, you will be spending around QR 1500 for your meals and another QR 2000 on miscellaneous requirements. This would however go up if you get your family here. For a person from the east, this would be considered a good package. But westerners have their own lifestyles and it is only you who could decide best keeping in mind your other requirements of living.
