hi i am a pharmacist with 3 years experience being offered for a pharmacist position in qatar. the salary offered to me is 1,630$ which is broken down to 950$ as my basic salary, 410$ for accommodation and 220$ for transportation. is this a reasonable offer for me? i have been browsing this site and shock by the truth of the renting expenses as well as transportation scheme. the question is if you are in my position is it a reasonable offer? will i survive there with some 600$+ savings?

that you will work as pharmacist. I think you need to take an NHA accreditation here. Check it out!

yes actually, getting a qatari license is my first priority when i go there more than getting a driver's license..

you're still young and relatively "small" experience. It's good offer here but try other ME countries. But I strongly suggest you accept it!

The salary range for pharmacists in Qatar is between 5K and 7K QR subject to the size of the pharmacy you are applying for. My wife is a pharmacist in Doha, she has 8 year of experience and getting ONLY 5K QR a month. I advice you

1- To look for a medical rep. position. You will get a not less than 10K + Car + incentives and a there is more opportunities for you to develop a careers rather than working in a pharmacy.

2- To apply for Hamad medical corporation, good salary but tough work shifts + Qatarization.

By the way here in Doha there is no western pharmacist’s at all and QP pharmacist's salary is a Unique in Qatar and cannot be taken an refrence.

Very nice tip and i am glad with the suggestions you are proposing...i think i should do that if given the chance later.

chevydjak said yeah, sad to say Racism here S*cks.... ...

I got your point... maybe we are not a pharmacist...

What if a western/ european pharmacist will comment to your thread and they will tell you that their salary is 30k riyals or 8,219usd?

What if Qatar Petroleum Filipino Pharmacist will tell you that his salary is 20k Riyals or 5,479usd?

You are in main forum Josh mixed nationalities, as I said offers based on Nationality not by profession, and sometimes depends how big is the company. A big difference between pharmacist in a government institution and private hospitals/clinic.

To be honest, that's quite a good offer for a private/community pharmacy.

Hope it helps...

chevydjak said Is it your first time to go ...

Is it your first time to go abroad? If that so, try to balance your salary there in our country and here by analyzing this breakdown.

Let's say you are earning 6k Riyals... 1630usd * 3.65 = 5949.50 QR

Sharing Accomodation - 800QR

Transpo - 500QR

Food - 1000QR

Leisure/xtra expenses- 1500 QR

for a total of 3,800QR a month...it could be less or more, it's up to you.

wow its hard to earn more than 600$ a month if this will be the scenario but its a good picture from which it points out where you are going to make some adjustments to save....so thank you for this......

im a filipino that's why they are giving me this kind of salary not even given the chance to see my performance at work...SIGH....that's life i guess.....

for a pharmacist, that is the starting. but if you'll pass the exam here and got your own license then your salary will sure go up

i think that is the plan of the employer...the agency told me that i should take a prometric exam and pass it before any process will continue...i did pass the prometric exam for pharmacy specialist......and im in the stage of data verification now.....i thought the prometric exam for pharmacy specialist which i took here in Manila ( online) is the qualifying exam but im not sure if it is? i tried to contact through email the department of SCH repsonsible for pharmacist but still i didnt receive any confirmation yet...so im not sure if I i would have to take another qualifying exams to get a license? Im not even sure if my salary will increase if i succeed in getting a license there.....

BTW, im praying that a license pharmacist there in qatar join will notice and join this thread so that he/she could clear some important details from me......aside from salary offer....which is the main topic....

postmodernman said pharmacists get paid that little here? ...

In my home country, pharmacists get BMW's as a signing bonus after they finish their degree! Mind you, it's harder to get into pharmacy than medicine.

i am just a filipino pharmacist and would like to continue my 3 years experience in qatar as a stepping stone to the western countries..I am fully aware of the great discrepancy of salary between western and oriental pharmacists but i cant do anything about that.....

my only problem is there are a few numbers of pharmacist coming to this forum, which i would like to ask there opinion if the salary is not far from there offer, or that if there is a need to demand more from the employer....by the way my employer is a doctor and the workplace is a community pharmacy.....

HAlves said depends where you come from ...

everything depends on where are you coming from if you are making such a money home than no its a bad deal if you are not than it could be a good deal ,,,'but 1,630 for a pharmacist is a bit low i think you have to share your accomodation in this case

i earn at least a little bit smaller than this but i think the accommodation allowance is too small. i believe the commodities are high there and that it isnt enough even for a meagre life isnt it?...including food and transportation.....

Your offer is approx 6K gross. If you stay in a sharing accomodation, you won't be paying as high a rent as someone who stays by himself.

Your other expenses all depend on your lifestyle and I do not see a reason why you can't save about $600 or a li'l more, if you're wise enough and live smart ;-)

All the best!
