Standard of living

Can anyone please advise on my combined package of 40500 Qar per month job offer? I'm married with 7 year old child, will our standard of living be good in Qatar on this wage? Thanks

in NIS. So do you have a peace of mind now in the other school? I hope so!

so are you saying these 3000 students has what kinds of parents? As you implied? Most of them are westerners! And the teachers are mostly if not all are also westerners! Hmmmm, now that made me think.

BTW, all I posted was the tuition range in NIS, I am not for or against them but it seems there are some who wanted to discredit the school. And what I posted was relevant to the thread!

Snowy, which NIS is that, West Bay?

The one in D ring is much less than that, same with BIS Al Waab.

flor1212.....get back in your box....or learn to listen/ask the right questions. On this posting, obviously drover touched a nerve......and you showed your true colours amazingly well!! Take a second to think about it before replying....

And I too have have had experience with Newton. They used my child as a teachers aid because she is bright and finished her work early. Could they do their job and TEACH her at her level??.....No.

I have NEVER hear a single good thing from anyone about NIS unless you put the paradigm of cost around it. Just WALK through ASD, and you will see! But do you want to spend that money. And most parents I know, are willing to not have that extra long holiday so their child can have that extra secure foundation to his/her life.Their inetrnational testings/university entrants prove they are good.

Mike, Its 80,000 a year for my kids

Gerry Donut, a point you are missing...is what is your nationality as that plays a big part in your wages. If you can don't accept your first offer, as other have said, without saying it, it the "extras" that you can negotiate on. A friend got a contract, and she sent an email back explaining essentially she was not happy (through home visit housing car etc) got double. This is an extreme case, but thats where you can start to talk from.

NIS for 50K a year? That can't be true.

an employee can not breach the contract by leaving the job because your employer will take it from your salary. But, an employer can terminate you and there is nothing you can do about it because your kicked out of the country within 1-2 months. So it's pointless to file a lawsuit.

I've seen this happen to a guy from Germany. His contract was for 3 years and the government terminated it after 1 1/2 years. It may be a good idea to keep a nest or money. Or, if you fail your health exam the immigration will not award you your Qatar ID. Therefore, you get kicked out of the country automatically. That's when you will question yourself why did you leave your other job and sell all your stuff for nothing.

Flor, talking about NIS...sadly I DO have experience with that school...and that experience is very, very far removed from good.

But again, it all depends on what a person expects and is satisfied with.

read my profile, gay kangaroo dog!

So Nomerci, you think NIS is not good? I think their grade 12 is about 55K QAR per year!

ASD has a nice facilities but for quality of educations, I doubt it based on people I talked to. And they are Westerners. Of course you will say I am talking to wrong people, but that will be your side. Anyway, I am not here to debate on schools level of quality as you are trying to imply in your comments after I mentioned NIS! I'm just mentioning the tuition as I got the list from NIS.

As I say before. I do not understand why people are questioning legitimacy of the OP. As posters have shown, this is not a decent family salary unless it does not include the housing and education and car.

I think it wrong for people to be bringing their families to Qatar for less. It just encourages poor living conditions and crime against the good people here. Best for poorer families to send one parent to work and send money to home country where costs of living are lower.

7 years-old child, approximately 20 to 25K per year in school, modest house (repeat modest house for UK family), say 150 to 180K per year. Car say, 30K per year. So, it eat up 50 % of your money.

The rest is for your food and I really don't know how much is your budget for booze?

Just don't tell us that you were lucky to be born ....! How do you call your place, middletop or middleunder? Lol!

By nomerci• 14 Dec 2011 22:01

Gerry, is this all inclusive? If so, you may want to see about school fees, they are VERY expensive here, for good Western schools, that is.

And villas on a compound don't come cheap either.

I would think you would want at least 80K QR

Esp if you have to pay for tuition...

"I have done a lot of research into my move on line, and I am looking for any responses that might indicate I have missed a trick along the way." That's cool! And you really think that here on QL you'll get 'tricks'? You are talking to the most sucessful breed of the human kind, man: QL members. They have learnt to survive under - you don't know - which conditions. You've gotta be tough! And then, yeah, you'll make it. But as a 'risk averse high earner' you better look for a safer place.

it should be ok. Apartment and education will take out 12000 to 16000 though. If you spend modestly you will save around 10k a month. Ball park figures of course

Polkadots.... perhaps some of the high earners are risk averse high earners, those that like to plan in detail their next move and make sure every base is covered before thay commit. For your information I land in Doha mid January and commence work the next day, and I am looking forward to my £85k + a year tax free phenominal salary. I have done a lot of research into my move on line, and I am looking for any responses that might indicate I have missed a trick along the way.

Your sincerely

Depends on what 'comfortable' means because it is all depending on what a person wants. I would have great difficulty living with my family on this salary if I also must pay for house and schooling out of it. Others would manage just fine.

But Qatar will be a better life for him even on a lower salary.

By timebandit• 11 Dec 2011 17:20

Indeed Polka, QAR 40,500 a month = GBP 85,159 a year TAX FREE. You don't need to be Einstein to realise that is going to make you comfortable.

Is it just me noticing or have you too? Of late there are these strange threads by people stating their phenomenal salaries and then asking the world on budgeting advice! These are usually the single threads of the OP and they usually disappear after the responses hit a targeted number,.....somebody living out their fantasies on line?.....don’t get me wrong , and don't give me the sour grapes story......I am not a struggling Asian house wife,.... but all these single threads sound strange,.... the kind of doubts don't fit in to the profile of a high earner,.....HMMMMMM....

The greatness of the offer will depend on the benefits--housing, education, etc.--that your employer generously provides.

Either ways I am certain that it is better for life that in your home country. So come to Qatar and enjoy the better life.

In a line; go for it..otherwise, reflect inwardly on what a good standard of living means to you..your package is worth 4 times the average income of most folks here..generally 40k should go a long way unless you're the sort who can't bear the thought of money lying unspent in your wallet..best of luck:-)
