The waiting is the hardest part
Hi there,
Wondering if we could get some input on this one: my husband received a verbal offer for a position in Doha, along the lines of "I'll get an offer to you in a few days."
Now, this was two weeks ago and he's now pulling his hair out, as we work in a deadline-driven industry where minutes count. (Something I think we'll have to adjust if we ever live on Qatar time!).
Is this pretty much standard operating procedure when it comes to offers, that they don't move quickly until the employer decides it's time to speed things up?
Any stories of similar situations would likely go a long way to ease his mind!

Don't lose hope, it takes about 4 months from the day i signed the offer letter and receive the visa. Please have faith, don't be dishearted.

our situation was a whirlwind!!!!! It all happened within a week. The offer came after a few days of review with the company of his cv.(march 3-5) My husband flew to Doha on March 8th to finalize a week of phone convo's. He is starting tomorrow. The kids and I will be there in June.
. . . the "Bokra Insha'Allah" for if/when we do make it over there. Yesterday, for instance, it was "Let the snow stop falling, already, Insha'Allah."Thanks all for the input, it really does help soothe the nerves. You are not alone....it was exactly the 10th of March that they contacted me to ask me whether I am interested...they sounded like they needed me on the next flight to Doha...trust me. That's the way they sounded like..and being an IT professional did not help...we are so used to aggressive deadlines and working round the clock...that I thought that they were in real need... well...we went through 3 rounds of discussions and I still have not seen the offer letter...so...Insha Allah....it will happen for your husband, juz like it's gonna happen for me...
Yes you are right it moves at snails pace, but at the same time, if the requirement is urgent they will not let you enough time to breath and expects you to join asap.

Don't worry. the paperwork movs at snail's pace sometimes. I waited over a month.
Sometimes this is the way a company get hook of you if you are eagerly wanting to take a job or not, if they find it you are dying to have it, they will offer you a rudesome payment, but if you don,t easilly give in, they will carefully give you a nice offer. So have patience and maybe you can call once and make clarification to it. But be carefull and wise in talking not to be so dead to get the offer. Just be cool and tell them if the offer is good and real, then say you are in...

If it is govt, a couple of days means 3 months minimum...
Be patient my friend or learn it the hard way in Qatar lol...
If u can't wait, then u will have a hard time adjusting here, cuz everything is "Bokra Insha'Allah" here which means "Tomorrow If God Wills"

Did the te line end in "inshallah Bookra" its the most common phrase used here and despite what the true meaning means my interpretation of that phrase is "I'll get around to doing when I feel like it" They used it when ever the main business is agreed on and has to be followed up with paper work.
Yes, it takes quite a bit of time from the initial "we want you now" statement by the employer to actually getting everything processed and bringing the employee in. The process can take several months and can be frustrating. The companies here are very bureaucratic and paperwork can sit on desks for weeks. So, don't quit the present job on the promise of one here.

mine took five months. My employer told me the same thing; we'll send you contract in a couple of days, it took exactly117 days. So carry on with your life and the letter will come some day inshallah.
Ruthie, why dont you ask your husband to contact whoever offer him a job and clarify the timing?
