Why Dentists' remuneration is poor

I am a dentist having more than 10 years experience. Recently I searched for job in Qatar, but I was zapped hearing the offers- maximum QR 8000- that's all, no accommodation, no HRA and nothingelse!! Drivers, nurses etc get more than this. I wish no dentist should accept such an offer. Then only they will consider of revising it.

If you are unhappy with the offer its best not to accept it. Find a place that offers a reasonable offer. I would then contact the clinic or hospital, ask to speak to a dentist who works there of the same nationality (yes, passports speak louder than experience) and inquire about what it is like to work there (maybe swap emails). They will give you the true work hours, pay, benefits etc. so your not given a false idea of your new company (it does happen!). As you said, if you make the mistake of choosing the wrong company first you usually dont get a second chance in Qatar (or have the time to wait for one - 2 years or more)!

that's another violation of the law

and they are open for morning hours and late in to the evening hours

definitely more that 8 hours in a day

However, how many of them pay overtime?

Private clinics are getting way with murder in Qatar

No gratuity or anythingelse. And the employers know very well, once trapped no one will ask for a hike- there is no use. Qatar's employment law is in favor of employers. If you resign, you can never come back.

that these private clinic's charge so much and yet their compensation for employees is so poor

Personally, I believe the private health industry in Qatar is a breeding ground for many labour right abuses

Mainly cos the staff are predominantly ladies (i.e. nurses), they have fewer employees, the employees are ill informed of their own rights and the labour right aspects are not as closely monitored as are larger companies

For instance, anilkumar... were you offered any gratuity as part of your employment?

I believe what Novita77 said is not an exaggeration. The consultation fee in some clinics is QR 200, cleaning QR 1500, Normal tooth extraction is QR 500 and then surgical removal of wisdom tooth can be QR 8000. There is nothing unbelievable. I think I know the name of the clinic, but I don't want to disclose it.

India is far better regarding payment to employees. In India, employees get a part of the profit proportional to their work to achieve it.

I agree, in Doha job-seeking dentists are more than the demand

what you said is not true...

even the most expensive clinics don't pay all their doctor's too well...

The specialists... maybe... the general dentists are paid very poorly...

anilkumar's offer may even be considered a relatively generous one

Don't even mention the state of the nurses in most private clinics...

Like jackmohan said... you have to target Oil, Gas, HMC, EDUCATION, Q-Companies... or you have to have a private practice of your own... (or a profit sharing contract with your employer)

Al Ahli pays well though...

Salaries are good only for those ...who are:

1. Directly paid by the Govt.

Oil, Gas, HMC, EDUCATION, Q-Companies...

Even for these if the Oil/Gas price goes down below

QR 50 and stays there they could expect a revision.

I have met DOCTORS who are working for 4500 royals per month in Saudi..

It is all about need, suppply and demand..

to repeat myself,@ Novita,if you did pay that much,it was probably @ the most or one of the most expensive clinics in the country, obviously not the kind of place that anilkumarkjtm got his offer from...the same procedure @ Hamad or @ a smaller practice would've cost less than half that amount...or is it that you want to advertise the fact that you paid 8k to have a tooth removed?...ok you win,10 points to you.

there are just too many dentists (especially general) in Qatar including many young locals who have nothin much to do except hang around at Hamad

so much so that they are tightening the NHA certification for general dentists process to decrease the number of people who pass the written exam

@ anilkumarkjtm, things aren't the way they used to be in these parts unless you set up your own practice & it does really well or you buy into a successful practice which would cost quite a bit otherwise India is where the money is now my friend,if you're going to leave India,go west or Australia/new zealand at least you'll have a better quality of life than this town...

@j3375,that 'cap' you're referring to costs that much @ higher end practices in the country, not @ a smaller, lower end practice or in Hamad, which are likely to be the kind of places that anilkumarkjtm got the offer from...
