Average Rent

Dear Friends,

Iam planning to mover to Qatar with a better employment.

If you can provide me the average rent in Doha for a non furnished, decent looking 2 bed room apartment (not luxurious) in a decent locality, it will be of great help to me when I answer the "expected salary" part in interviews.

Thanks!

well if you want to talk with complete certainty then yes you do have to call them all.

I'm going to be building 8 apartments which is designed to look like a large building/house which is split into four.

Does that count as a split? What about houses that are attached to each other and built with the purpose of being two villas? Are they considered a split?

cheaper than 6000... you are lucky you could manage to find something for 6000. I am pretty sure it's some piece of c***, unless you have paid 2 years in advance at once. I am sure, it's not even an apartement in the normal avarage building. It might be a part of villa, or some other partition of something, consisting of rooms 2mx2m, which they call "bedroom", "hall", etc... Or it is in a very very bad area, where a decent girl even not suppose to step to.

and the situation is only getting worse. If  some time ago these "partitions" were available for QR 4000-4500, now the same ones are going for 5500-6000

\don't worry some of those guys are punks with all of us (yes even Qataris). When I went to get a visa for a friend, they tried to deny it on the basis that she was single. Quick chat to the supervisor and that guy almost got a smack on the back of his head for being an idiot.

I recently went to the Airport iimmigration to apply for my parents' visit visa and the bored officer asked me who was coming? When I said it was my parents who were visiting me.. he asked me the next question... Where am I working?

I replied 'Oil & Gas Industry' (name witheld) and he asked my salary and I told him 15,000 and guess what he replies... TOO LESS.. You cannot bring your parents... go get a hotel visa...

I got the visa the very next day signed by an active officer..

But the striking fact was the officer thought 15,000 was too less a salary for him.. Now will someone tell me what's the ideal salary... lol... I would say go for 11,000 + an accommodation... but again it depends on the job you have applied for..

If you accept to live in an old unpainted pinched wall building with rotten smell all over, then go for 6000 QR or less for 2 bedrooms unfurnashed flat.

You just have to select which standard you accept to live in.

I agree with the fact that unfurnashed 2 bed rooms flat with reasonable area and reasonable location would cost 7000 and above.

@charan, I'll help you get one :)

@Qatarsun, I'm sorry but I'll never prove myself to you.

As mentioned before I GAVE Jauntie the number to a brand new apartment in Najma, wasn't a great location but it wasn't that bad.  You also contradict yourself by saying 'you'll never find' but then say "yeah there are but they're ugly"

back to charan, I then scrolled down and saw that you said I was trying to 'fool you'.

Again through threads and pm people I've helped. They'll tell you otherwise.

You all just don't know how to shop, but regardless, once my new project is complete I'll have a large grin as I slam you all down with proof.

Pisses me off how you use QL Classifieds as the gospel or guide for apartments.

@CB, thanks for being the only enlighted one out there. You are the only one here who seems to understand that when someone says "You will never find something cheaper than 7,000, then that means never".

I'm saying you CAN find an apartment cheaper. When it comes to condition, age, location and whatnot that's a different subject.

Unless your accommodation is either fully paid or HEAVILY subsidized.

Doha may look attractive from a wages point of view particularly if you are not very well paid at the moment.

BUT you will be sacrificing  ALOT to come here unless you are well paid.

Please think long and hard about a move here. It is not worth it unless your rent is paid or your housing allowance is huge.

for 6000... you come and see... it is a GARAGE beside villa which they made as a "flat", and you have to go down to the basememnt few steps also..... do YOU want to live in the basement - GARAGE??? you are more than welcome for 6000! and even this "2-br flat" was: 1 br 8 sq.m., 2 br - 7 sq m., "hall" was 6 sq.m. with the "american kitchen"!!  ha-ha-ha!! it means "hall and kitchen" all together 6 sqm!!! and all this in GARAGE! and they call all that 2-br apartment!!!

don't start with me!!

No dear it was not part of a villa it was flats as I read.

Generally I am on your side as far as rents are concerned but I read this on QL last week and was also surprised. No I did not go to see it as I am happy where I am and still not looking for a new home yet.

By qatarisun• 11 Feb 2008 09:05

you saw it ON QL!! did you see the actually "flat" itself??? most probably it's a miserable part of old villa with the stinky walls.. don't start with me regarding accommodation!! please! I know every single hole in Doha by now. I have seen hundreeds dirty miserable places, pigeon holes, with the rooms 2X1.5 which they call "Halls" and 2X2 which they call "Bedroom".. they say it's 2-br flat and try to sell it for 6000-6500.. but the question is if you really can LIVE in such a garbage place!!- Or they advertize "Villa".. when you call, it turns out that there are "ONLY 8-9 FAMILIES" lives at the same villa... and you will have a pleasure to find yourself in camp.. please just stop it! just go and see couple of times what do they offer for 5000!!

there is NO 2-br flats for QR 6000 in Doha! Forget about it and don't FOOL the guy!! Range is somewhere between 7000 to 10000, which brings average up to QR8500 (7000+10000)/2 = 8500...

even for 7000 it's very very hard to find , if he really invests a LOOOOT of times, efforts..may be will pay commissions or so (which will also increase his rent)....otherwise rent starts from 7500!

I'd agree, depending on the location, it seems that the average is 6,000

Of course you could find cheaper if you searched.

most 2 bedroom unfurnished apartments ive seen are at least 7000....if you are in the process if negotiating ask for at least 9000 just incase you cant find anything for that price..better safe than out of pocket...

Home rents may vary a little here and there within Doha. If you take a semi furnished house ...thats with just AC's in the rooms , the rent should not cross Qrs 7000 in a decent locality......some more furnishings like Beds...table ...sofa....w/mc...TV etc it should be around Qrs 8500 - 9000. Good luck ...see you in Doha soon !!
