Dubai vs Doha cost of living

Hi everyone,

Can some1 pls give me a brief comparision on the cost of living of dubai and doha. I'm currently in dubai and considering a job offer in Qatar. My friends in dubai tell that doha is a quiet place, cost of living ie cost of groceries, utilities(electricity, water, phone),entertainment are costlier than in dubai.

The company will be providing accomodation for me in doha.I had seen some posts in the forum saying that with 3000QR per month, one can enjoy a decent life in doha.

I would apreciate ur insights. Especially from ppl who have relocated to doha from dubai.

Cheers and thanks in advance.

@jauntie, thanks for recommending the site! Nice to know the hard work is appreciated ^_^!!

In general Doha is cheaper than Dubai. Simple as that.

Accommodation is rising as much as Dubai and electronics are MUCH cheaper.

Mobile phones for example are the cheapest in the Gulf.

@Blackcat, if accommodation, transport, and benefits (although not mentioned) is provide 3000 is enough to live comfortably. It depends on your lifestyle. That means he's got 3000 to spend on whatever he likes.

If you eat out everyday, go to clubs, cinema's and do a great deal of shopping (and spend alot on your girlfriend) then yes 3000 isn't enough. But if you've got a budget, it's fine,

@blackcat, algren is saying phone CALLS are expensive. I'm saying Mobile PHONES themselves are cheap.

One is a service, the other is hardware. Wrap your mind around that.

@Algren, yes it is my site. WOOPS I made a big mistake :P I'll fix that. Thanks for spotting it guys

algren LIVES in Dubai. and BASED ON AMNESIA'S SITE and comparing prices to Dubai he says "Telephone calls are way too expensive in doha..".(I agree 100%!)

Amnesia at the same time states that "Mobile phones are the cheapest in the Gulf"... how is THAT can be?

And as i said: out of this 3000 he will have to pay at very least 1000 for his own car or taxi: company spprovides transportation usually from home to work and it doesn't spread on the Malls, bars, cinemas, going out with friends, and so on. He will need to spend money for his own transportation as well! If he will get (why not??) a girlfriend, he will need to spend another couple of thousands to go out with her. that's it. His salary is gone, even before groccery, before mobile, before paying for internet, buying clothes, visiting dentist once in a while (reccommended to everyone, by the way, regardless to gender or age!!!), and other manynthings.. so how is 3000 can be enough???

Algren, add about 10-15 to accommodation prices and about 5-7% to all other amnesia's prices, and you will see that youor 3000 will desappear in about 20 days from the beginning of the month...

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ! Relocate safe!!

and transportation provided by company, how is it ever possible to live with 3000 a month?? ok, transportation from home to work and back. And what about after work? he will need a car anyway to move in Doha. it's already more that 1000 a month... how for God sake can you survive in Qatar with less then 2000 month??? He will need only at least these 2000 to entertain himself and his girlfriend!

Thanks every1. The site http://www.iloveqatar.net/ was very helpful. If the spreadsheets in teh site are true it means grocery would cost alomost the same as in dubai.

Housing definitely is expensive in doha. But then..in my case thats a fixed cost borne by the company.

Telephone calls are way too expensive in doha..

I beleive there are'nt any hidden costs like paid parking, road tolls etc in doha...these costs have proved to be a pain for expats in dubai.

Cheers n Ramadan Mubarak to all..

aruni...this you will never find in Qatar! Your SIL is lucky she does not have to face such rent problems as in Qatar.

2 bedroom, 2 bathrrom, sitting and kitchen @ QR3100.

I think this should put the whole issue of Doha v/s Duabi Rents in perspective.

the rents are high here believe me dubai is better.qatar has changed a lot no saving possible nowdays here you have a make a lot of sacrifice and its a very big step leaving dubai and coming here so think about it.the cost of living is also rising slowly so no point.in 3,000 the people are bachelors and share space in rooms which is very uncomfortable so think about it

Algren ... IMO ... you can live with QR 3000 provided the company provide the full acommodation (not allowance) and transport. I dont know how much you pay for cinema in Dubai, but here cost QR 30 per person. Mobile phone to call is QR 0,75 a mins, and i think QR 0.65 per text message. For food it would be depend what you eat really ... some people . Other think have been discussed many time before, you should use the 'search' function ... i am sure it will come out with tons of answer.

Good luck!
