Selamat Datang ke Qatar. Kalu husband kerja kat RasGas, datang la rilek2 dulu kat Qatar ni...tak payahla pening cari kerja. Kalu rasa boring sangat, baru la apply kerja. Kalu ikutkan you punya pengalaman kerja, mesti no problem dapat kerja.

May be you wife could try applying for one of the many international schools in Doha. I am sure there's a demand for English teachers. However, the is a tendency for English teachers to be recruited from native English speaking countries.

Salam untuk semua Malaysian Bro. Recently I was offered by QP to work with Ras Laffan Industrial City Department

Package offered:

1) Is there is any malaysian already joint Ras Laffan Industrial City Dept? Appreciate if I can get their contact..

2) Where is the recommended town to stay.. since it seems that there is no housing estate at ras laffan? looking at location close to malaysian community.

3) My wife is an English teacher. Is there any chances that she can get job as a teacher over there?

5) Is it easy to get international school for our kids ..?

Thank you.

Actually, I just landed here two weeks ago for 6 mnths assignment with vodafone.

So, feel happy sebab ada org malaysia. Harap2 dapat jumpa la nanti.

Anyway, saja nak tokok tambah.. Sini accomodation quite mahal la.. kureng sket jer dari dubai. Makan boleh tahan lagi.. yang lelain tak tahu..sebab i duk kat hotel.. malas pening2 kepala.. end up i check-in hotel for 3 mtnhs...

For those nak dtg sini. kena carefull la, if u deal dgn agent, make sure everything stated dlm offer, ckp mulut tak mau dengar... jgn dah resigned kat m'sia.. duk sini hidup melarat pulak.

sekali lagi.. salam semua..

I am a Malaysian and I have stayed in UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and Singapore. I had travelled to most countries around the world for my job.

In my opinion, Qatar is not that mahal as compared to other developed countries. It is, however, expensive compared to Malaysia/ Thailand/ Indonesia. Or perhaps Malaysia is cheap compared to others.

The problem is Malaysia's currency and salary structure. In Singapore, a fresh graduate gets S$2,500. In Malaysia, a fresh graduate gets RM2,500. A new BMW 3 series in Singapore cost S$140k and a similar car cost RM330k in Malaysia (i am talking about comparing apple to apple, ie both imported BMW). A locally assembled one (CKD) is around RM250k. so, figure out yourself...who has the bigger purchasing power, dollar for dollar?

So, rental and food and car....are all compartively similar to developed countries. To compare the salary you need here, do not benchmark against what you are earning in Malaysia...but what you would earn in Hong Kong or Singapore....

Email me if you wish to know more.

Also I am looking for lots of SAP staff.

salam dari doha...

i baru je kat doha...baru 3 month..with Qatar Airways...

dok baca all the comments...memang dok sini mahal..makan mahal, rumah mahal..sekolah mahal.

Allhamdulilah i dapat good package from Qatar Airways(QR)..Rumah dapat...elaun utility /sek anak/transport dapat..after 6 month confirm...tiket flight murah...bayar 10% je...but standbye la...kepada yang nak datang tu pikir la betul betul if setakat offer ciput tak payah la.

at least biar berbaloi..rumah paling busuk 6k tu pun flat 2 bilik...so kalau offer 15 k sebulan umah tak dapat dah hampir separuh gaji...sewa umah,,,

anyway life kat msia 100 kali bagus...but gaji tak la macam kita dapat kat sini...

so...moral of the story tepuk dada tanya selera...

assalamulaikum..

Hi Noble--Man .. a thousand tq for your reply!! .. at least that could explain why i was told 1,2or3 months..it makes more sense now with ur reply ;)

yeah, hasn't resigned yet actually ... but u know, when there s a new offer on hand, for definite current work performance isn't that good..and was thinking a holiday off before i go over.. life in M'sia is quite messed now..government stopped quite lots of major oil&gas projects..things r all dangling there without progress..

its only political issue now..byk roadblocks, ceramah+'roadshows' recently kat KL ni.. most not posted on media.. siggghh..

Welcome to Doha..at least ko ni dah sebelah kaki kat Qatar...Aku dulu pun ngan AP gaks..memang AP ni slow sikit...

AP sedang communicate lah ngan QP...AP pun dapat commission bila berjaya hantar candidate kat Qatar nie.....ko tunggu je la...QP HR akan Check Medical Report ngan panel doktor QP kat sini...bila dah OK..dia akan apply Multiple Entry Visa..(mungkin 1 atau 2 minggu nak dapat Visa)...lepas tu hantar elektronik tiket kat ko...kat sini kena medical check up lagi sekali kat Hamad Hospital, Doha..

So..banyak lah benda nak disettlekan....

sembahyang hajat jer...minta dimurahkan rezeki...

Good Luck!!!

10k QP would be plentiful for foods plus utilities with a family of 4 persons.  ANything beyond that would be wasted in the desert.  What is so luxurious after all? being able to spend more than others while NOT getting the right amount of satisfaction?

folks, dont try to make things too complicated. From what I have read,

the figures below are pretty much in the ballpark.

Feel free to make comments if I m way off. Otherwise, they should give u

a very good picture as to where u are in term of living expenses and

how much savings u will be getting, if any at all.

1. Basic salary minimum 8k QP to have any "meaningul" savings at all.

2. 1 bedroom 4-6k QP, 2 bedroom 7-10k QP ,Preferable getting free accomadation from company as the cost

of housing rental is skyrocketing

3. Utilities - Electricity 100 QP, Internet 60-100 QP, water 50 QP

4. Foods family of 2-4 , from 2000 - 4000 QP depending on your life style

5. If got children under 18, ask for full support for children's education

6. Transport - 600 QP, if got car loan 1500-3000QP

7. Telephone 200-500 QP

8. Miscellaneous (household expenses- 500 QP)

Maybe wise to ask for end of contract bonus  and make sure it is being written

on the contract.  and ask for free round trip air ticket at least once a year to your home country. Plus, annual leave about 30 days

Ramai org msia yg nak keje disini tp tak tau mcm mana nak rebut peluang sbb tu ramai yg masih terkial2 dan serba tak kena walaupun dah dapat peluang keje disini. Cuba kita tengok mmat pilipinos ngan sri lanka depa tak kisah sgt berapa gaji yg dapat walaupun sekadar cukup2 mkn aje depa belasah aje. Kerajaan depa galakkan depa merantau sebab peluang pekerjaan di negara mereka dah takde. Memang tak dapat disangkalkan kalu gaji setakat 4-5K QR nak mkn apa kat sini sbb sewa rumah sebijik pon dah dekat 5-10k QR. Kalau kawan2 pandai riki2 di sekitar little doha (musheirib) bawah kedai atas umah atau kawasan muntazah/fareej abdel aziz ada bilik yg bole disewa di sekitar 1-1500 QR sebulan. Bas mmg bnyk kat sini dan biasakan bejln kaki sebab bas stop kat sini mmg takde bumbung & tambang bas pulak sekali aje naik dah 3ryl.Apa yg penting jgn berkira sgt, kat msia pon keje bukan pon bnyk sgt dah....sebab tu kawan galakkan rakyat msia merantau di sekitar2 negara arab ni utk mencari peluang. Bnyk2 kan browse dlm internet dan survey negara mana yg nak tuju. Kawan dah dok kat Doha ni dah nak dekat 6 bulan, mmg le kat sini tak semeriah Kuala Lumpur tp apa bole buat yg penting niat kita dtg kat sini nak cari duit & tambah pendapatan itu saja. Orang2 Arab ramai yg suka kat org msia...tp hang pa kena buat baik le bnyk...walaupun setengah2 tu depa kutuk kita ckp Arab kita tak paham tp kita buat DEKKK aje...yg penting depa lebih kenal Dr Mahathir drpd kenal Malaysia.....Hidup Msia

Aku dah jumpa ramai budak M'sia kat Qatar tapi tak percaya yg depa tu nak berlumba-lumba antara satu sama lain.  Buat apa? Nak jadi Raja Kampung??? Kalu nak berlumba, challenge la Pak Arab kan? Pak Arab bukannya berlumba2 nak tengok sapa lagi kaya, tapi berlumba2 kat jalan tengok sapa lebih terra  bawak kereta macam Michael Al-Schumacher Wal-Unta (Arab konon).

Kalu geng M'sia nak bawak Ferrari ka Lamborghini ka baru boleh tahan.  Lepas tu, kalu kena tahan polis, kita tengok sama ada boleh makan saman ka tak! Ha..baru tau yang kita ni kat negeri orang.

Buat apa nak berlumba ? Kita kat negeri orang cari rezeki masing2.   Therefore, aku tak percaya yang geng M'sia nak tunjuk terror antara satu sama lain. Kalu ada, habark mai kat Orang Kedah ni! Cuma, masing2 nak bawak diri kat negeri orang. Itu saja. Hidup Malaysia!

Hi kucinta, bukan semua yg duduk villa, ramau yg sewa flat (byk save duit ni). Yg nak berlumba ada, tapi itu masalah dia oranglah. Kalau tak larat nak bayar 2 kereta, tanggung lah sendiri. kalau package dia power, go ahead, sebab memang mampu.

cakap melayu boleh, saya dah kat sini masuk 2 tahun, tapi saya dari jiran sebelah. Kenapa family m'sian yg kerja kat sini lifestyle mereka mesti nak berlumba-lumba dia antara satu sama lain. saya rasa semuanya dari QP.

yg single status tak cerewet kalau di bandingkan yg family. kalau yg family semuanya duduk kat Villa. Package bagus ke... Mereka nak duduk sini selama-lamanya ke. Maafnya kalau pertanyaan saya ni akan menyinggung M'sian kat Doha. Kalau saya holiday kat M'sia saya suka dgn perangai, budi bahasa org sana dari sini. Mereka lebih ramah. Kalau kat sini if u are not from QP or from any local co's tak pandang langsung.

CIP,

OK, I hear you.

Can you do these 2 things please :

First, deny all those statements that I have made, say that all those being mentioned are not true.

Second, since those points I have listed are mostly the cons, why don't you list down the pros.

Everyone is entitled to his/ her own opinions, that has got nothing to do as the moderator for this Group. What I have said is what I have felt and experienced, without prejudice. If you have other opinions/ experiences, you are most welcome to share them with the Group and no one will stop you. I have got no hidden agenda but I simply don't want my countrymen to become disillusioned (as you said I am one of those who have become one).

YESSSSSS hazli.......Ini dia the kinda spirits Malaysia really needs from her citizen!

QG is a great company. Heheheheheh not that I am working with QG I am involve with the RGX Project. Accomodation I think you got it. Datang kerja ada transport free lagik....Kalau bukan kerja shift start aro 7.30 pg balik kul 3 ptg.....kerj a5 hari seminggu...anything more is OT Hehehehe

Yes come forthe experiences. Hidup memang bolih hidup tapi jangan lah sampai2 jer nak beli Z4 laaaaaah 5 Series laaah....Benz laaah. Datang carik duit bukan membazir duit.

Anyway Hazli keep that spirit in you....when the going gets tough taht is the time you will know what you are made off!

You sounded very disillusion! I am not seeing any positive response from you to those seeking advise.

Some of those who writes in are young in early part of their careers or just starting out.

I think that everybody knows that life is not all rosey but maybe some may wanna venture out and gain that experience. What you ought to be doing is give them the pros and the cons bukan tembak terus.

Kalau macam ini sampai bila anak2 malaysia nak belajar bersaing ngan bangsa lain?

I really dunt know whats your disatisfaction is with your life ...your work etc here in Qatar.

I have been here since September 2006, I have no complaints. I am inthe O & G industries...kerja macam kuli gak...........gajino complaints......accomodation OK......makanan...bak kata org makan tanggong berak tong...... banggun pagi gi kerja .....balik kerja bilik all cleaned up......tiap2 3 bulan balik jumpa family.......Tiap2 Jumaat drive to Doha....buang masa and to ensure that I am stiull a SANE person...kalau tak bolih jadik giler

Kita bila kerja tu NAWAITU mesti betul. Maybe you were expecting much more in what Qatar can offer you but found out differently. Came and found no entertainment that you enjoy in Malaysia......you felt free but not really free....etc....ect....ect...

What you get depends on the kinda work you do,the kinda expertise you have in you, the ammount of experiences that would come along with you. Kalau setakat okay dan tak okay berlambak2 lagi tenaga buruh they can get from India...Myanmar & Mamat2 Bangla.

I know that you are the moderator of this Malaysian Forum but please jangan bagi all the negativity that you experienced....give them pros and cons, and then let them decide for themselves.

Tapi kalau asyik bagi nasihat jangan datang.........takder lah anak2 Malaysia terutama nye anak2 melayu yg dapat bersaing dan belajar dari yang lebih arrif dari kita.

Jangan ambik hati bro nanti lekas tuer!!!!!!!

 Love you Nobel :-)

Lovely people like Thailanders. I just met a Malaysian couples with 4 children recently, they are both very sweet, soft spoken and very polite indeed. they just arrived here less than 2 weeks and I think she's also a member here. but they had a problem which schools to put their children. so if you could possibly alarm your fellow country people to check on line and enroll their kids in advance before coming over and to inform them too, to get themselves an International Driving License as they cannot convert their Local driving license here.

Assalamualaikum and hi to everyone...

Me another newcomer on this blog. Glad to see they are quite a number of Malaysians in Qatar. Also very thankful that i manage to find this site. At least i can gauge what to expect once i am there later...i just accepted an offer from QG, tried to nego with them to increase the basic salary but to no avail. Nevertheless, the package looks reasonably attractive, looking to put aside savings of at least RM5k/mth...To do that, i don't think i can really live like the expats here in Malaysia. Bottomline is looking forward to a new experience since i am still 28 and a long way to go insyaallah...

Keep the comments rolling. ciao!

Or perhaps bank or money changer at Malaysia give at better deal or using other tricks by buying the travellers cheques?

Malaysian friends, will appreciate your comment;

Cost of living in Qatar

Monthly expenses:(QR)

4000 belanja rumah/dapur

8000 sewa rumah

1000 bill utilities

1500 kereta installment

14500 Total

Does the above figures roughly correct?

Hi all,

Just came back from swampy site in suriname. scary place.

Thanks for the reply ey.

Yeah, it will be QP.

you guys know smtg?? the housing allowance that AP/QP offered me previously was QR2000. But after making some noises to them based on the points extracted from here, later they came back to me saying that it will be QR6500 per month and another supplementary about QR4000...and QP will increase it some more. So, total will be +/- 11k then. Hopefully, I won't touch my basic to pay for the rent/ car. meaning more saving=shorter stay=big smile. :)

what d U guys think ?

Series3landy ... are you/your husband going to work for QP ? If your husband is QP senior staffs there is QP housing compound in Dukhan. Have its own shop, school and swimming pool.

If you are junior staffs, there is flat for its staffs somewhere nearby. But i never been in the junior staffs housing area, so cant comment much on it.

Hello people,

I'll be coming over to dukhan within 2 months time.

How's life over there ?

Is there any pre-school facilities somewhere nearby ?

Then, after 3 months, I'll be chased out of the company-provided house. is it easier to get a house over there ?

What's the rent figure like ?

There are alot of worrying insights from everybody especially on the increasing inflation rate.

well, the bottom line is how much can we safe per month....

looking forward for comments/ opinions.

Thanks.

Saya dah duduk kat Doha ni dah setahun lebih dan saya dapat buat kesimpulan duduk di Malaysia adalah 1000 x lebih baik di atas sebab-sebab berikut :

1. Sewa rumah tinggi yg melampau lampau

2. Kadar inflasi yg terlalu tinggi. Kenaikan gaji tahunan tak boleh nak catch up dgn inflasi

3. Yuran sekolah anak-anak pun teramat tinggi

4. Exchange Rate yg semakin teruk. Setiap kali hantar duit balik Malaysia saya rugi 10 %.

5. Hidup di sini teramat amat membosankan. Tak banyak aktiviti boleh buat dan tak banyak tempat boleh pergi, terutama masa Summer ni kena banyak berkurung dalam ofis/ rumah.

6. Health support system kat sini tak berapa bagus. Hospital kerajaan cuma ada satu je kat Doha ni. Saya dengar banyak kes-kes pembedahan terpaksa ditangguh sebab Hospital Hamad tak cukup katil/ kapasiti utk menampung jumlah pesakit yg ramai

7. Orang-orang kat sini memandu kereta macam orang gila. Semua bawa kereta macam tak sayang nyawa.

Saya rasa ramai orang Malaysia sebelum datang sini kelabu mata sebab dapat tawaran gaji tinggi. Tapi bila dah datang kita dapat nampak realiti sebenar. Dengan kadar inflasi yg tak terkawal, gaji kita sebenarnya semakin mengecil. Apakah berbaloi semua pengorbanan kita utk datang ke sini....saya rasa TIDAK !

Whether 15 k or 20 k, or 40 k, it is all relative.

The main concern is the House Rental. I suggest you go to www.gulf-times.com, check the Classified Section where you can find a lot of adverts on houses for rental. That will give you some ideas on how much it costs.

Few things to make sure you'll get from ur company to come here;

1. Accomodation (separate for family not sharing basis)

2. Medical claim/ Insurance

3. Education for Children

4. Flight ticket home (annually) * still ok kalau tak provide..

Those first 3 things are the highest cost ere (generally in Middle East). If they don't offer you all these but giving you salary range of RM15k-20k per month, still won't be enough!! So.. stay in Malaysia.. and be thankful ;)

If they offer all of those and give u yet a salary range of QR10k and above.. baru bleh consider.. but 10k pun nak save tak sebrape la.. dapat la save lam 3/4 ribu kot??

A decent furnished apartment je dah cost you at least RM7k/month!

A nursery/pre-school mite cost you RM2k/month!

Makan luar - darab 2 or 3 la.. depends on place.

Tgk wayang pung darab 3!!! (menyampah tul!)

Brg2 mentah.. lebih kurang la.. tapi kalau import, mahal nak mati..

Brg2 elektrik, slightly muraher sini.

Kete - murah la.. mane de tempat kat dunie ni harge kete mahal dr malaysia! hehe

Brg2 baby - darab la 2/3 kali gande.. siut tul..

Ape2 pun, set ur mind, coming ere, the cost will be 2 or 3 times higher when u were in M'sia for sure!

Transportation - taxi is very hard to get, the official is Karwa taxi..but not that much.. people often go by taxi sapu, depends on distance.. starting price QR15, can go up to QR35 or more (sebab dieorg blasah je kan). So, baik beli kete je la.. senang cite

Ape2 pun goodluck la...

I'm ere from Nov 2006. Still ok and surviving.. but miss Malaysia soooo damn much!

Hello...

Kepada org-org yang nak dtg ke Qatar ataupun mana2 tempat kat Middle East ni...kalau dpt offer from Malaysian companies, kena hati2 skit. Allow me to share something with you. I am a Project Manager in Abu Dhabi and based on what I observed, company Malaysia yg menang projek di sini sbb harga depa murah. Depa tak sedar bahawa kos nak bawak buruh asing kat sini mmg melampau-lampau and gaji profesional kat sini mmg tinggi.

Kat sini rumah and food mahal. Seriously....

Assalamualaikum semua...

my ofis mate ada bagi tau pasal satu offer kat Qatar, so I thought i'd do some homework first la pasal Qatar, esp cost of living, dan terjumpa this particular thread by fellow Malaysians for Malaysians... :)

anyway, for info, saya kerja sebagai IT consultant - SAP/ABAP technical consultant, dan offer yg saya dengar tu about 450USD/day, about 9000usd per month. rasanye currently accomodation/travel not included. but still negotiable. it's with Atos Origin ME. still don't have all teh details yet.

so nak tanya lah kawan2 yg currently kerja kat sana - berbaloi kah saya ke sana and leave everything that i've already accomplished here (almost everything) and relocate there for a few years?

from most of what I gather, accomodation there can be very expensive. camne dengan preschool? anak saya baru 5 tahun (very hyperactive).

and how's medical insurance? how much can I expect to save with what's being offered?

malaysian community dah ada kat qatar... that's a plus point already :)

kata orang tue2... hujan emas negeri orang, hujan batu negeri sendiri... bawak balik emas banyak2... heheh

thanks semua otai2 melayu qatar...

wassalam...

Assalamualaikum,

My husband got the offer to work with Rasgas power plant. He would like to go yet I refuse because I'm a working woman. Going there meaning that I need to quit my job. So now I am looking for a best reason why I need to go there. Dzul92 gets more salary than my husband,accomodation,transport...yet Noble_man said it is not good enough. Does the cost of living in Doha is much more expensive compared to Al Khor ? Should Rasgas provide everything, how much cash we need to spend in a month for utility bill and food?

Anybody living in Al Khor community? Please anybody kindly help me. If my husband go, sooner or later I need to go too..to support him...I am so afraid that I'll be gambling my son and daughter's future. I'm so confused.

1 more thing.. Is it true that the cheapest accomodation (old flat, 1 room)u can get is QR4000/month? And utilities QR1500/mth ?..Are they practising double standard? Coz im sure there are poor Qataris and with that rate.. sure kaputt man.

Thanks again

RM 50/day OR USD 50/day ??

Even if it is USD 50, USD 50 x 30 days x 3.47 = RM 5205/ Month.

In total, you'll only be getting RM 8505 per Month.....

My frank advice, DON'T COME ! You will regret for the rest of your life !

The subject is "Especially to Malaysian", meaning he wants to talk to his fellow country people, like one of the thread "Para sa mga Pinoy" topic which is for Filipino when they ask help for "Kabayan" (fellow country people)Don't worry Haizazudin can survive, see? he has some reply from his own people in Malay dialect? He maybe he's just hesitating to talk in English as he is comfortable to use his dialect. maybe that's all it is.

Anyway, how's your social life with QL member? I saw in your post that you come to meet them personally. I am very busy running around doing things and friends are quite demanding to drive them around as they don't have car yet. I drive them crazy too! whenever they are moaning I just make them laugh. at least they forget their moans if they are with me. I only meet Han19 and she's very nice and sweet type of person, just as she was like the way she comment.

Just keep dancing, it will do you good!

here...

Then regret all the way. Then as usual human beings will adapt and make the best of it...its his 2nd week here...

So don't be duped till you feel the confidence, if this co. is sincere they will fly your husband in for interview and get to know the place. If not forget it.

I definately agree that back home is 100percent better. But salary is an issue there. pros and cons...need to weigh...

hope you will make a sound and wise choice...

Satria, actually the agent juz told us that my hubby's position was changed from Senior Foreman to General Foreman.. The worst case is that the agent just gave us 1 single sheet of paper to sign, and the rest of the document will be received upon arriving. We feel like it was a trap.

By checking other agencies in the internet, found out that General Foreman qualification is only High School Certs, but my hubby is in exec status. Even now I keep thinking... not to go to Qatar.. too risky...

Haizazudin.. correct.. that agent is from AP.. not transparent enough ... disclosing some informations.. hm... we better find other jobs though...

Haizazudin, aku dok kat sini dah setahun. Aku pun kerja ngan syarikat minyak kat sini. Rasa kau tak payah datang le, tak berbaloi. La ni pun dah ramai yg nak cabut balik. Hidup kat negeri sendiri 1000 X lebih baik.
