Is my sponsor company authorized to block me from leaving Qatar for any reason?
I was thinking that the sponsor can not do this without a court decision or such authority.
Could anyone advise me please and what should I do if such action is against the local law?
You can file a complaint in Labor Court of Qatar...if you dont get positive response from there....go for National Human Rights Commission and report it there.
All expatriate workers require an exit permit to leave Qatar. The sponsor has a right to deny an exit permit if there are any issues with the employee that need to be resolved prior to departure. In such cases, the issue can be sorted amicably with your sponsor.
If the sponsor accuses the employee of theft or fraud etc, the issue can be referred to local authorities for legal proceedings. In such cases, the employee is barred from departing the country by the court. However, the court also reserves the right to waive the travel ban and can allow such an employee to travel. This would depend upon the judge and the seriousness of the charges against the employee.
