Exit Permits - Slavery, Servitude, Right or Wrong?

Hi,

I am new to Qatar and have been trying to educate myself on the people, politics, and history. One topic that stands out to me is Exit Permits.

As I understand it, the state has spoken about removing the system but the business owners’ reaction to the idea is very negative, so the state remains fearful. Why?

Globally, it would seem most countries that join the global pool of envisioned leadership are states that value human rights from the very foundation level. Freedom is at the very core and is fundamental for a state to proclaim support for human rights.

If the business leaders in Qatar are afraid that everyone will leave is it not a sign that human rights are being abused and that the state should act faster to disband the system of exit permits? Is it not a warning sign to the people of Qatar that those opposed to change may be doing things against fundamental human rights which create a negative image to the world, when the country is doing so many things that are positive for the world?

Is continuation of a system enabling it being further enforced by those against removal of the system - does this not scare you? The thought rests heavy on my mind. I stay as I know I am bringing positive change each day and I love the people here.

Does the state and people care about freedom? Should the state and people not fight for what is right and change the system? Everyone seems afraid. Why?

My gut tells me that the people of Qatar are intelligent, proud, and support human rights and will do what is right very soon.

What do you think?

Just dont realise why people term this as slavery? Nobody is pointing gun at your forehead & asking to work. Lower your expectation in life & look for working in freedom loving countries.

Well, dont think much we can talk about this. It happened to make be uncomfortable when I was offered my Job in Qatar. One of my prime demand to my employer was stamping a multiple exit permit and they did it. You have a choice any way - Multiple exit permit - May be you need to look into that. Good luck!!

Unfortunately there are so many people that are obviously not to be trusted in Qatar that the exit permit is a necessary evil to make sure their affairs are in order before being allowed to leave!
